Default Canada Pension Plan and the Liberals

Trudeau, Freeland and a number of other Liberal ministers going back a few years have all publically mused on accessing CPP funds to invest in Canadian Infrastructure. Trudeau at one point made a statement on CPP supporting projects for greening the economy.

This article is quite good at confirming the approaches by the Liberal government and putting to bed any thoughts that they have had on getting their hands on another pot of money to squander.

Interesting statements in the article :

One of the fund managers. He explained to Trudeau that they don't invest in government "projects", but rather in established, profit-based private sector enterprises so they can predict a return with some degree of certainty. And Trudeau did a good job of "appearing to understand that"

---------------------------------------------------------------

They (Liberals) start with a bias they’d rather be in Canada than anywhere else, so are the conditions there for the investor? What is our tax policy? What are our trade policies? All of those sorts of things,” he said.

Fixing those conditions is the way to get more investment money to flow, he said.

“It isn’t telling OMERS (or Teachers’ or the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board) to invest a bunch of money in Canada.”

I read somewhere that the QPP averaged 7% when the CPP did 10% due to the infrastructure investments in Quebec under the QPP.

No matter what you think of the APP. At least the prince of pride won't be able to get his hands on it.

And what do you suppose the return will be if Trudeau invests in green projects? More like how much will be lost to his liberal/WEF buddies?

That's kind of what I was saying. Wasn't the carbon tax supposed to cover that infrastructure investment?!? Argh!

One of the scary parts in this article is the complete lack of understanding by this government of what it takes for an economy to prosper.

All this government can think of is using pots of money (ie the CPP) with no clue on how to replenish the pot of gold and zero shame on how their policies are killing Canadian industries.
