I think it's the opposite, much like Nikon, their rifle scope business is not their major business, they don't want to upset the birdwatchers, photographers and the sunglass crowd who are the bulk of their customer base.

ZEISS just release a new alpha level scope this year

I don't want to sound like an idiot and I may be completely wrong, but this is a post by someone who is looking for followers, and it says right in there you can see a "screenshot" in the stories, which viewing stories requires that you like and follow the individual to see it. If it was legit why not post the screenshot as a photo where all can see it? These things are often used as a common type of clickbait to generate followers.

I don't know how legit this is, especially if it has now been removed, but I would consider a bit about it before accepting this instagram post as truth...

Straight up, other companies have tried to intentionally sabotage me before too, so I am always a bit leery when it comes to an individuals posting of something on social media. As I say, it could very well be legit, but there is also no doubt that social media has been used to sewer companies unfairly many, many times. It certainly can be a double edges sword where on one side you can use it for legit justice but on the other side you can use it for utter manipulation.

I don't see this as any different than comments made here on AO re the foolhardiness of posting kill pics on social media like facebook and Instagram. Its a different world these days and getting the antis wound up is just not smart. A person has to be a special kind of stupid to be rubbing what we do for sport into those who know little, never will, and are likely to lose their minds over it. Best to just let them go their way while we go ours.

It's not against the law to drive down a busy city street with a dead elk strapped to a trailer or roofrack like we'd do in the 60s and 70s but there weren't thousands willing to run to their computers to spread their ill founded reasoning across the internet back then either. Hunting doesn't need more Cecil the lion publicity because we know how that can chip away at our rights overvtime. Why give the antis more ammunition to promote their mandate?

Smart of Zeiss to do a little preemptive gate closing to prevent the BS from spreading when it doesnt need to happen. There's lots of places to post pics and opinions if one is so inclined, that minimize risk. Like AO for example.

And P.S. chuckie, Zeiss still makes great scopes, top 3 imo, whether you endorse them or not, and its highly likely they wont lose much sleep if you do or dont.

And by the way. I would have had the same reaction with Swarovski, Leica, or Leupold. But that isn’t likely going to be the case. If Zeiss doesn’t want their scopes around kids, dead animals, or guns maybe they ought to quit selling them.
