Default 6.5 saum

I'm just wondering if anyone shoots 6.5mm saum (6.5mm gap S4) and what their experience has been with it and how did you like it? Thinking about building one for hunting big game.

I did several 6.5 SAUM and 6.5WSM rifles when the cartridges first came out. And like both .
Who knows, I may just do another of one or the other !

Did they not have some feeding issues?? Cartridges did not want to feed well because the bullet made them to front end heavy?

Trades I would interested in:
- Sightron rifle scopes, 4.5x14x42mm or 4x16x42mm
especially! with the HHR reticle. (no duplex pls.)
- older 6x fixed scopes with fine X or target dot.

Feeding issues come from Shoulder angle and body taper more so than front heavy

I wouldn't know about feeding issues, 99% of the guns that I have re-barreled or had built have been single shots, either falling block or solid bottomed bolt action target rifles.

Well that there is a feeding issue all on its own.

I built my 6.5 SS at the height of the SAUM 4S coolaid movement. When H1000 was a magical powder that didn't wear out barrels.... this was in 2014. The 6.5 SS was brand new and I was fortunate to find out about it. It was the first Sherman Shortmag this side of the border. performance was pretty evenly split. but the SS won out because it was a TRUE short action cartridge. I could seat into the lands with a 140 gr VLD bullet and still mag feed it.

Just throwing this out there but how similar is the 6.5saum to the 6.5prc? If you want factory support the prc maybe an option.

You are correct.
Somewhere I have a pic of a 6.5 WSM, PRC, and SAUM together.
They run in cappacity in that order, alll are fairly close together, but the PRC has the advantage of being a SAAMI recognized factory round

Could feeding issues come from the action? Were you using push feed or controlled feed actions, or do you think this doesn't matter?

Honestly love my saum. Might not be as cool as the 6.5 prc but hammers and damn accurate.
