Default RCBS case trimmer problem

My son bought an RCBS Trim Pro-2 specifically because it claimed to be able to handle 45/70 cases. This "improved" version has a universal shell holder with 2 spring loaded jaws that hold the case in place. No problem with smaller cases up to 30/06 diameter cases, but past there, the jaws will not spring out far enough to accommodate the larger 45/70 ones without prying them out with a screw driver. The older version uses interchangeable shell holders. We can't be the only ones experiencing this problem, looking for remedies. RCBS is generally top of the line stuff.

My RCBS Universal Case Prep Center has the Universal shelholder, and I have trimmed 45-70 cases with no issues at all.

On the shell holder
Can you push it in, then turn it 90 degrees?
My fa press has a universal shell holder too and that’s how you adjust them
There maybe 4 sizes on the universal head

Off topic but how do you like that unit? I've been think of upgrading to one from my manual RCBS trimmer and seperate case prep center. I hate cranking by hand and the power drill adapter works but could have some improvement.

I like it, super fast, micrometer adjustment, and you can do multiple tasks at the same time.

This is the situation, the head is not adjustable. I'm going to contact RCBS to see if they possibly make special jaws for the larger cases.

I'm curious as to how you made out after contacting RCBS.

What was their solution to your issue ?
