Default question regarding oars for my drift boat

Looking at buying some new oars. I have a 16 foot skiff hyde/premier and enjoy the boat and have had for 3 seasons. Floating the Bow tomorrow!!!!

The oars are 9.5 feet, carbon fibre with the diamond shape paddle but really heavy!!!!!

Probably going with some Sawyers and asking if anyone here uses the Smoker bandidts? like dislike? Am also looking at the square top style for counter balance . Probably going composite but really need something lighter than what I have.

Any input appreciated.

Tight lines!!!!
Posted same question on fly fusion forum as well!

Length ,weight oarlock height all make a big difference.Myself Id prefer shorter lighter.More strokes but easier to pull.

Thanks

I would borrow if yeah can and try.Myself Id try 8'-8.5' pine ones just for a try.
Floating the bow in regular flows you dont need big expensive oars.

Its like you need two sets, pending on weight and flow how you want to fish ect.
No one set will please everyone.

Im reading and researching lots and do not need a hurried decision. I do adopt the buy once cry once for many things!!!
Will only get one more float in due to upcoming surgery so no rush. Checking Sawyer site and will probably order a pair down the road. Just not sure yet on type. Expensive!!!!!!
Thanks for reply.

Are your oars balanced? Once the oars are balanced I found that the weight of the oars makes little difference to the effort to row. We've used 3 sets of oars on our drift boat; fibreglass, wood, and CF without much changed. Once the pivot point is set for your preferred leverage I will balance the oars so they just drop into the water with your hands resting on them. Ankle weights make good adjustable counterweights.
