The Red 9 guns were manufactured during WWI so that they would use the standard German military ammunition rather than the original 7.63 Mauser round they had first been made in. The grip had a large 9 carved into them to make it obvious what ammo they used.
C96 values are based on condition (corrosive ammo was used at the time, so lots of frosted or pitted bores). Also the guns are essentially hand fitted, so every part should be serialized to match.
Some guns "Bolo" versions have 101mm barrels making them prohibited here.
Restricted guns in decent condition and with all matching numbers and a matched wooden holster stock command prices above $3000.
A mismatched gun with a pitted bore should get about $1200, prohibited guns usually less.
