Two of my favourites are still around, Peter's drive in and Chicken on the Way. Working in high school at a neighbor's landscaping business during the summer, he would buy us dinner at the end of the day at Bob's, Peter's, or COTW. My wage: $1.85/hr.

Back then it all sorta made sense. One stop shopping for the man of the house. Just add a barber shop.

I remember hitch hiking in from St. Albert to shop in "the big city" (Edmonton)...

The Boardwalk (orange shag and incense)
The Jean Joint (in the alley)
Black Sheep boutique (need those super wide flares!)
And some hair place in the underground mall below the AGT tower where I got my Weird Al Yankovic hair trimmed by... gasp WOMEN!

I was trying to remember the name of that place.

Not much funk or character for a sporting goods shop but the price for Whizz Bangs and Gevelots was hard to beat.

There was a drugstore just west of Big Chief that also sold fishing gear - do you remember the name of that store? Bought my first Mitchell 300 there - best price in town - I was a very cheap kid.

I'd ride my bike all over the city just to save 50 cents of my hard earned money on fishing gear - just so I could buy another box of ammo.

My grand dad told me you could even buy cheap women there in his day.

That was in the 1920's.
