Thumbs down Spring combining.....

I don't envy anyone who still has grain out.....I pity them !!

I got this pic from a friend. Supposedly taken somewhere in Sask., in a swathed barley field .

Lots of canola swaths up this way but I haven't seen anyone combining it yet. I figure that they'll start next week if the weather cooperates. I don't envy those guys. The ground is thawing and is getting really soft as well. I think that they'll have to leave the grain for a bit in low laying areas.

Everyone I talked to north of Edmonton their grain and canola is all moulded, whether standing or in swaths. Not much use for mouldy grain, can't even feed it.

Probably lots going to be set on fire. How did we go from being as dry as a popcorn you know what to drowning in rain? I sure hope they can get something out of it. Best of luck to all the farmers out there!!!!!

I've heard many rumors of guys being told by their agents that they will not be taking spring harvested crops, canola especially. Luckily, I don't think there's too much left out in this area.

That is one crazy pic. There is a ton of crops still out there. I do farm claims and we witnessed a horrible fall with combines packing in so much mud trying to get crops off, stuck combines, parts damaged that never get damaged in a harvest. Those of us in the business have been waiting for the second push. I suspect it's only days away from starting if the weather holds as farmers have to get them crops off the fields. I am hearing the same, mold, ton of mice, animal poop and trampled crops but they have to get them off. Heard a few say eff it and will be burning the swaths. What a horrible harvest most of our farm friends had to deal with and it's not done yet. Hope you can get it off before the ground thaws.

We are expecting some more ingestion claims as those swaths will be right on the ground now.

Farming is one tough business!

Feel for the farm community. Here's hoping you farmers can get a decent year this go round.

This works but crop insurance has to fine their blessing first, and they want to wait till spring to see what can be salvaged.

Getting it off before the ground thaws is next to impossible, just checked my swaths now, some places they are soaked, other places like on the north side of the swath there is still ice, and as of today a half ton is punching through the frost already. If the weather stays good it will probable 2 weeks or so in my area.

Those mice were headed out the back of the combine. They just got caught up on the sieves. They don't make it into the grain tank.

As a former combine tech seeing that makes your skin crawl. Not much worse that laying on your back inside of a machine and having them little buggers falling on ya.
I can hear the call coming into service right now " Hi, I'm getting real high readings on my sieve loss monitor and can't figure out what's wrong"

Hoping for the best outcome possible for the landowners affected.

Grain is cleaned before being milled or crushed.

If you want to worry about something, think of all the goose, duck crap that turns to dust and coats the kernels going through equipment. Imagine all the yummy urine from elk, moose, deer, mice, coyotes etc etc. Just think of the deliciousness on your fresh uncooked veggies, lol.

Ps, mouse crap is a beotch to get out of certain seeds.

Enjoy your dinner.

Every 20 pound bag of flour in the grocery store has a couple of mice ground up in it. I remember when the flour mill in the town I grew up burned, thousands of rats and mice poured out of that place for hours while it burned and were running across the road in front, by morning the road was a bloody carpet of squashed mice.
