Default Opening day hopeful

It's opening day out here... I've got my 10 year old son with me as an observer, and my 14 year old son as the shooter. Hoping for his first archery animal. Last year he got a pretty good (for a southern zone) whitetail with his rifle - this year he's set on getting an animal with his bow.

We found this buck a couple weeks ago during our pre season scouting... pretty good for an east central cwd zone that's been hunted hard for the past 3-4 seasons.
Last time we saw him, he had another similar-sized buck with inline stickers... looks almost identical - maybe a brother?
Anyway, first light found us glassing for either of them. They're in pretty open country, and we should have located them right away - however it was a little over an hour before we found this one. Bedded with a big forkhorn. Unfortunately, some whitetail does ran right through the little finger coulee they were in, spooking our bucks. They ran about a mile along the coulee, before disappearing out on the flat prairie above 1/2 mile from the coulee edge. We relocated them, bedded in a small patch of knee high buckbrush, about 400 yards from the road. We can see a good approach - thrres enough little folds and dips in the prairie where a loooong belly crawl could get us close enough for Conner to get a shot (he's restricted to 30 yards. Beyond that, he isn't confident). Right now, we're just waiting for a wind.
Will update when things happen!!

Definitely a prospect! Looking forward to more pictures, especially with your hands wrapped around the antlers.

If he gets that Mulie as his 1st animal with a bow, he will be ruined for life.
Best of luck to the young fellow, sound like a wonderful time out there.

Default Update 1

The bucks have made their way to the grass coulee. The bigger one and a medium one have split off and are about 60 yards from the small bucks. They're about 90 yards from a dry salty marshy area, so that should make for an easy and quiet belly crawl - IF they bed down around there and we get some wind.

Default Update 2

The day is heating up. The bucks have bedded - sacrificing the wind for some shade. There's three in the group now, all bedded with the breeze in their face, bedded under some low shrubs. We should be able to close the distance to 20-30 yards. Wish us luck!
