Italy and Greece. What footwear?
Well we did it! We booked our trip for the middle of May.
My question is to all you experienced travellers is what type of footwear should a guy be looking at taking/wearing while there?
Comfort is a must with the amount of walking I'm sure and I'm suspecting no flip flops for sandals.

High end pair of Keens or something similar would be what I would use.

Footwear
Bring two pairs, wear some good runners and bring a set of "casual dress shoes" that are also really comfortable to walk in. Hush puppies\clarks\rockports come to mind.
If you'll be there a couple of weeks the very first day find a tailor and a shoe maker and have a suit and shoes made to fit you. It takes them awhile to get those things done, I wish I had known that before I went to turkey, where a tailored suit can be had for a very reasonable amount.

Obviously runners are the most comfortable, but that marks you as a tourist. Last trip I mainly used a very casual pair of shoes that were comfortable for walking and could be worn with either long pants or shorts. It was September but still plenty hot and I didn't wear long pants too often.

I went business casual and comfy, Clarks. We planned on several stops in cathedrals and the Vatican, sneakers, runners are a no no in Italy! Open season on you for pick pockets etc!
Also keep in mind many places frown on wearing shorts and skirts like the Vatican.

Wife says not to worry, lots of shoes for sale in Europe. Something light and airy with soles suitable for stone/rock paving and concrete.

That's what I was figuring. Might get the old strap around velcro sandals instead of my normal flip flops and then get a pair of casual shoes that won't be to hot or uncomfortable to wear walking all day.

In Europe they love American tourists, so dress the part. As far as footwear goes wear brown shoes with white calf-high socks as they are the most versatile.

A pair of stylish trail-running shoes. Ive personally used approach shoes for most the places I've gone; La Sportiva BoulderX. Super comfy but the girlfriend hates them haha

He didn't say Scotland or England.
Flip flops most of the time, but if your walking on the stone a nice pair of runners or hikers works well.

There's plenty of sheep in Greece. Nester is an experienced "traveller". LOL

Light hiking shoes, lots and lots of pavement in those countries. You definitely don't want to flip an ankle. Keep the flip flops for the hotel.
Runners are also a good choice, as you'll probably be mugged =)

Think I'll bring my regular every day shoes and find a pair of those Colombia velcro sandals and that should be good. Worst case if my feet are killing me I'll find something there.

Yep, in and out of water, over rocks and beating a lot of pavement. Keens beat any Velcro sandal out there.. Had mine for 5 years. Was all I wore in Indonesia, Hawii, Greece and Italy.. Easy to clean just wear them in the ocean.
Held up to many cliff jumps and hikes, Not one blister, nikes, columbia's and others would detonate on impact from 20-80' cliff jumps. Also wear them stream fishing and hiking in the mountains, anywhere you plan on getting wet and keep walking all day.
Will never wear flips flops again, ever, after a nasty toe injury. Not even worth packing let alone wearing.

My wife said the same thing, ugly, she ended up stepping on a sea urchin in Greece, and had a limp for half the trip. Apparently the limp still wasn't as ugly as my shoes lol.

Ugly as sin, but happy feet in and out of everything. Treads about gone but they still work, saves packing around other shoes or reef socks for hitting the ocean.

If you're walking, don't scrimp on taking good proper fitting footwear. I've been fortunate enough to do a lot of travelling and you always do more walking than you think and a good pair of light weight hiking boots (Merrell) with good socks are essential. European sidewalks, trails, roads etc. are old, uneven, cobblestoned, constant state of disrepair. Don't even waste your time with packing jap flaps, sandals, crocs etc.
