Well I guess if you can give 1 terrorist 10 million as a pay out than really what's 4 million. Good deed but a drop in the bucket really.

I was thinking along the same lines as well - and I hope no one takes this the wrong way - couldn't the (grateful) French have put in a special designation to prevent commercial development?

Canadian blood was spilt on that beach for us to sit back and complain how hard we got it.

Money well spent to ensure this historical place remains as is.

Better than condos and everything else that comes with so called development.

A little read,

And Canada doesn't even own it, we basically gave the French money for them to buy it.

I have been to Juno beach a few times. It is an extremely humbling experience every time. I have some shells and some sand and pebbles I brought home from the beach I keep as a bit of an homage to the men who stepped up and did a job almost nobody today can truly grasp.

Lest we forget...

The old France isnt the new France, but I understand your comment.

The French arent really "the French" anymore

I am not sure of the area occupied by the Juno Beach Centre, but more of the land should be transferred to Canadian control as was done at Point du Hoc, west of Omaha Beach.

Pointe du Hoc now features a memorial and museum dedicated to the battle. Many of the original fortifications have been left in place and the site remains speckled with a number of bomb craters. On 11 January 1979 this 13-hectare field was transferred to American control, and the American Battle Monuments Commission was made responsible for its maintenance.

. . .

Let's not forget that France has Not been stingy with Canada, either ❗

There are a number of Canadian war memorials & cemeteries in France, all considered to be on 'Canadian Land',
including 👇

If Canada wanted Juno Beach to be memorialized as well, they should have negotiated that with France, a Looong time
ago. With all the changes & developments that's happened there since the end of the war, it's just simply ... Too Late.

At lease the Juno Beach Centre and it's property, are considered 'Canadian'.

Selkirk

P.S.
And yes, it's both Sad & Disappointing to see that
'some' forum members here feel it's necessary
to Soil yet another thread, with the mention of
JT. 😕
