Default First Tongariro NZ Trout

Finally got my first Tongariro Rainbow!

Definitely a small one by Tongariro standards but I'm still happy. It's only a 4 hr drive from where I'm living so I'm pretty sure this will become a weekly event. Such a great river and area.

Caught in the "Swirly Pool" just downstream of the Bridge Pool. Took the #16 Copper John and was a great acrobatic fight. Was a bit tricky to land since my indicator was right at the fly line/leader and due to the depth of these pools I had at least 15ft to the bottom fly. Job done, released in good health.

Definitely need to work on that TRC (Tongariro Roll Cast). Those that have mastered it make it look amazing.

What a great looking fish Hassi. Keep up the good work and keep on grinding. Double Jamesons for all!

Awesome fish!!!!! I was lucky to fish that river in 08. Lots of great history and wow it can be a busy river. Makes one appreciate what we have at home. Im heading back over in May so if you need anything from this side of the pond drop me a PM and we can meet up.

I was just back in NZ for two weeks , flew back to Canada yesterday, gave you a call, must have number wrong,
I spent a couple days on the west side of the Ruapehu, got several very nice rainbows from the area,
Have you fished the stony in taranaki yet, ?
First five casts, two 3lbs rainbows and another hooked and lost, aursume, clear stream, 40km from were you are living.
good old tongariro, caught a few fish from it over the years, had a few very good days in the summer, when it seams to be a lot less busy.
looks like a nice day.
I am back in three weeks, thinking of choppering into the kaweka, for a hunt fish, end of April, intrested.
Will send a PM.

southernman.
