Default Buying a gun in the U.S

What's the process of purchasing a gun across the border and bringing it home? I have a PAL of course but i have no idea what i would have to do in the actual purchase in the states then getting it home.
I was in Spokane last summer and there was a sweet deal on a Muzzleloader at the White Elephant.the guy behind the counter had no idea what i would have to go through either.
I will be in Kalispell in February and i plan on snooping around.Any help would be appreciatted .

Default USA Gun purchases

I contacted Canadian Customs and the gun has to be left at the border until registered and then picked up by the owner, also I talked to Cabella's and they said there was no way of buying a gun from them and bringing it into Canada. The lady there said it was a huge hassel.
Got mine from SIR they have some good deals on at present.

Cabelas is wrong.

I've bought a dozen of so in from the US in the last couple of years. Here's a post of mine from another BB that gives you what you need to know. I'd be glad to help if you need any further info:

In the past few yrs, I've imported several Sakos from the U.S into Canada. You will need to register the rifle before it gets to the border and have an IIC completed(free). You will need someone to do the exporting paperwork too. I use 'LeRoys Big Valley Gunworks' in Montana. They charge $75 per firearm($25 after the first one) and you'll have some shipping from them to you as well. They are you FFL dealer so have the firearm shipped to them.

Here's the IIC:
http://www.dfait-maeci.gc.ca/trade/e...ts/EXT1020.pdf

Here's the form to register imported firearms:

http://www.cfc-cafc.gc.ca/online-en_...pdfs/998_e.pdf

Here's LeRoy's address(Denise is usually your contact):

leroygun@nemontel.net

I hope this helps. Its not a difficult process but it takes several weeks or even a couple of months. You will have to pay duty on a Finwolf as its not made in Canada or the US(3.5%) otherwise, free trade would cover it. Also, customs will want 6% GST.

Federal Firearms Licence(US)
You cannot transfer firearms between State's down there from individual to individual, you have to use a licenced FFL holder.
And gee whiz another gun law which makes little sense.
See a pattern!

Yes you can, we sell each other long guns all the time. You need a ffl to transfer ownership of a handgun however. Different states have different rules but in all the states ive lived in longun can be simply transfered between individuals. Ive never been charged more than $20 to transfer a handgun so shop around.

$60 is the max per gift GST free. So if the value per gift is greater than $60..............you pay GST.

Default shipping

Does anyone know the shipping options to get firearms back to canada? UPS & DHL said they wouldnt ship firearms, and I've been given the impression the only option is to pickup at the border or airmail with air canada which could a few hundred? Any comments on the best shipping options?

Thanks,

<><

Jfish....

I have only delt with Leroy and Denise, and picked up at the border. I am sure I read somewhere-please check-that USPS is easy to deal with....and handles packages with more care than ups.
