Looks like he loved it,but a note of caution with a flintlock. An I didn't know this till a month or so back. When the flint comes down and makes a spark on whatever it is( Frizzen perhaps) there is a lot of **** that gets discharged off to the side like smoke and burning embers. That **** flies around and can hit your eyes...so if standing beside a flinter, turn your head and cover your eyes.

Is that a Trade Rifle or a Great Plains Rifle?

I have a Deerstalker myself. Lyman makes awesome muzzleloaders, I have had a lot of fun with mine.

I love my rock locks.
They have a bad rep for not firing, or delayed firing, but with real Black powder and real flints I don't have these issues. Obviously you don't have any delays either.

As the day wore on and things got dirty I was having a fair bit of trouble getting sparks & I forgot the extra flints at home. I'm hoping to run into some other flint shooters out on the range one day & learn a bit more about keepin the sparks flying when they get dirty .I tried napping the flint and got enough to make 'er go boom but I probably needlessly ruined the flint in the process. Part of the fun of this gun is learning how to keep it running and fiddling around with it. I have a Kentucky Long Rifle cap gun too but this flinter is way more fun.

Your flash hole can coke up too. Depends on the weather really how fast it can happen. But if it starts plugging up you can imagine the difficulty of getting the spark down the channel.

The only time I have trouble is if I forget to pick the vent hole or the flint gets to short and needs to be moved ahead. Tried lead wrap on the flint and it smashed them so went back to leather. I set mine so they almost touch the frizzen at half cock and use 4F in the pan, and 3F in the chamber for 50 and 54cal.
