Default ATT Border crossing question

So I recently picked up a new handgun, and I noticed that for an ATT they allow border crossing. I frequently go to Montana over summer (friend owns a huge plot of land), and would like to bring my hangun and rifles with me. Does the RCMP have any information on how I would go about doing that? I also noticed Montana is an open carry state, does that allow us Canadians who come over to carry? Would be nice to holster carry on the farm!

Unless you are hunting or going to a competition, no you can't take your firearms with you.

Yes, yes you can.

You need to fill outa form with the ATF in the US. Don't ask the RCMP, they don't even know Candian firearms laws.

I think you also need to obtain a state issued carry permit. I believe it in loves a classroom course and exam.

Montana gunlaws

http://www.handgunlaw.us/states/montana.pdf

I found this amusing;

Use of Force in Defense of Occupied Structure.
Section 6. Landlords and Tenants -- No Firearm Prohibition Allowed.
A landlord or operator of a hotel or motel may not, by contract or otherwise, prevent a tenant or a guest of a tenant from possessing on the premises a firearm that it is legal for the tenant or guest to possess. A landlord or operator of a hotel or motel may prohibit the discharge of a firearm on the premises except in self-defense.

It also says they do not issue concealed permits to non-residents

Open carry doesn't require a license for USA citizens doesn't mention us

On private property you shouldn't have an issue. Get the form filled out with the ATF and you should be good.

Check into the ins and outs of a Montana CCW. I know Utah used to issue them to anyone that took the course regardless of where you hung your hat. In Arizona you have to prove you are a resident of the state to get one, doesn't matter what country you are a citizen of.

You can also get an exemption if your going down to teach a course. (guess that's an event) Strange a Canadian can't go south and train at gun site etc., But we are more than welcome to come and teach.

Homeland security is worried that foreign nationals coming to learn shooting skills might use those skills against America. (kind of like how some Arabs used their flying lessons for evil purpose.)

Paranoia ?... maybe but our immigration policies are not winning us lots of support down south. When was the last incident of new Canadians plotting terror...I don't know a few weeks ago involving a cross border train route.

I guess if we want the US to relax the restrictions we might have to solve the problem.
