Did this happen in Alberta? I know of no regulation that you would have broken in Alberta.
I bought a little cooey single shot .22 some years back and cut the stock down a couple inches. This was for my kids to start shooting with. They have out grown it but I have not. It is a very accurate little piece and i use it a lot for grouse. It will fit in my day pack without sticking out too much and I occasionally carry it while big game hunting when grouse numbers are up.
I have a CO2 .22 cal pistol. And I think it would do in a grouse but I'm not sure if it would be legal so I have not carried it. (I know it does not have the velocity to be considered a firearm under Fed legislation but the provincial hunting regs just say you cannot hunt with a pistol)
