Default light .410 or .22 for carrying

I have hear about some really light and small maybe even foldable .410's and .22's which I was thinking might be handy to carry for grouse when big game hunting. Can anyone point me towards one so I can do a search?

thanks

dave

They have some of the backpacking .410's in at the Sportsman's Den in Red Deer, I don't recall who makes them though.

IGA/Stoeger makes these. Equiped with a 12 inch barrel. I would rather a 10/22 with a folding stock.

Default Short 410

Boito is the maker of the backpacker. Stoeger stop making them a few years back.

Remember, the extra gun must be completely sheathed and unloaded if you are carrying on your back while your primary rifle. I got nailed by F&W a couple years back while hunting elk. I had a 410 poking out of my pack and it was not "completely sheathed".

Never heard of this before I don't even understand what the purpose would be??? I can see "not loaded" but "sheathed" doesn't make sense.

Butler Creek makes the folding stock for the 10/22. However they are no longer being imported into Canada. The folks at P&D confirmed this to me last week.

The Choate folding stock is better than the Butler Creek stock. It has a plastic cheek piece. I bought mine at Milarm a few years ago.

Look at a Savage or Stevens Cadet in 22. Yes the stock is sized for a child, but it is extremely light and compact and I find that I can shoot my kids' rifle comfortably and very accurately. The Stevens model is only about $180 at Russells.

Did this happen in Alberta? I know of no regulation that you would have broken in Alberta.

I bought a little cooey single shot .22 some years back and cut the stock down a couple inches. This was for my kids to start shooting with. They have out grown it but I have not. It is a very accurate little piece and i use it a lot for grouse. It will fit in my day pack without sticking out too much and I occasionally carry it while big game hunting when grouse numbers are up.
I have a CO2 .22 cal pistol. And I think it would do in a grouse but I'm not sure if it would be legal so I have not carried it. (I know it does not have the velocity to be considered a firearm under Fed legislation but the provincial hunting regs just say you cannot hunt with a pistol)

I have a Marlin 915y (youth model) Its only 32" overall and a neat little single shot. I bought it for my 5 year old daughter for when she is ready but i have a feeling it will go into the jeep with me this fall.
