I highly suggest everyone who like to shoot in field scenarios comes out the rifle rodeo. Last year was my first year and it was a bit of everything fun, humbling, exciting, most of all the group of folks who turned up and the after shoot BS session was great. I actually won a category in a shoot off against Gitrdun.

I had no idea what to expect but I will be back this year barring a situation that doesn't allow me to participate.

I am both a paper puncher and a field shooter....I agree with duceman and Gitrdun people should not be questioning others field skills without knowing them personally....most shooter who also hunt that I know are quite well rounded in both disciplines.

I recently met BobbyB from the forum out at the Sherwood park range....what impresses me about him was his ability to ring gongs off hand at 100 and 200 yards and if I am not mistaken 300 yards also.

I think we need to be more accepting of each other and more supportive of the different shooting/hunting disciplines.

Well said Lefty. Don't forget to mention the suspense when they had to bring out the calipers to measure......you bugger. But hey, wasn't it fun though. I too look forward to it and getting a re-match buddy.

And Dick284 mentioned that he would only pontificate this time around as to not intimidate so many shooters from entering. I say bull, I want that prize and I want to take it from him....that's my challenge now.

A Tikka
2 Weatherby Vangaurds, one Deluxe and one synthetic.
and a Remm 700 in 300 Win Mag that shoots 1/2 sub moa, but not sure thats the normal out of the box. Maybe the luck of the draw on that one... Maybe not. I don't many Rem, but that one's a total keeper. It's a 26" barrel with Satin Finish (Gunstock Oil and Wax)Walnut Stock with Drop Box Mag. The Satin Finish is just as nice as my Vangaurd Deluxe and maybe better because the finish isn't slick, but retains all the good looks. Scoped with Bushnell Elite 4-12 x 40. X Mark Trigger and New Super Cell Recoil pad. Easy trigger to set, perfect for me! Recoil is similair to a 30-06! Never did a thin to it to improve accuracy like most do. Just use Hornady ammo... Maybe that's the trick?
Any thoughts?

-1/2 3 shot groups arent all that hard to get with a little TLC with the rifle and load. Consistantly getting -1/2" 5 shot groups is prity rare and with a factory rifle with factory ammunition its about as common a 10 lb chicken, there might be a few around but I never saw one. I no Cooper, Weatherby and maybe others claim their rifles will do it I believe with 3 shots but that is still impressive. The other factor is caliber/ recoil and the shooter. What I mean is its prity easy to do with my Kimber Oregon 223 but not so easy to sit down and do it with my Custom shop model 70 in 300 RUM even though the rifle/ load combination is capable I cant always pull it off. Sorry if I wondered off subject.

I'm always amazed at how many accurate rifles others have. I own a lot of rifles and I shoot a lot. I also reload and am meticulous with every round. On those rare occasions when I get a 1/2" group it's a reason to celebrate. I have a Browning and a couple of Weatherby's that give me some tight groups, and a Remington 700 in 17 Fireball that comes close, but I can't claim that myself or any of my rifles can consistently group them 1/2" sub moa.

Lots of potential in this thread to show off these shooters in either of the 1/2" Challenges.

working on 2 right now, not ready yet.

savaage 10fp macmillan
basics trigger, 20moa badger ordonance base, badger ordonance max50 ring, bushnell 6500 6.5-30x50
(now recieving a shilen select match ss 7mm wsm 30" bull and nightforce 8-32x56 .125moa with nightforce rings)
308win factory i recorded(on a rest) .230 moa with berger 168gr vld 308win 39.5gr H4895 @2.865
usually shoot .5, .6 off bipod

other one is a remington 700 tactical with aics stock and jewell trigger, waiting for a badger ordonance base, the bushnell scope and next year its recieving a krieger.
record at .4, usually shoot .5 to .6 with factory barrell off bipod.
40gr nosler varmint b-tip 27.25gr benchmark, push those pills at 3950(i think the chrony is recording speeds a little higher than the reality)

i had a good potential with 26gr benchmark but i need to change the scope before i can shoot it again.

will update on the savage 111 30-06 as soon as i can get the plywood stock done. i think just a 2x4 would be better than the original stock

btw, i'll try the 1/2 moa thread as soon as they are done.
so far, the base have been out of stock for a month
and i cant find a 8-32x56 with .125moa

myrand - The thing about being a gun nut is you need patience ... we are always waiting for parts to come in ...the smith to get to our project ...the wind to drop...and the barrel to cool. I try to think a year ahead, get 2 or three things on the go...and then they all arrive in the same week. Patience with you wait. Sounds like some good stuff.

Default 1/2 MOA at a 100 or?

I have personally never shot a sub 1/2moa group at 100 yards. I have however shot 5 shot groups at 300m sub 1/2 moa, not many.
I enjoy little shooting challanges more than shooting between heart beats repeatedly. I like finding a rock or spot at a distance one has to range without electronics, know how you and your gun operate with your load and bullet; then make an educated shot at it. The best placed shots I have ever made was kneeling at 625-640 yards accross the peace river at a log with a branch sticking straight up, cut that branch three times with a custom model 70 in 270 wby mag.
I have a 340 wby custom that will do 0.710 5 shot groups at 300m with my Dad driving; not me.
