Default Powder coating

I was at a pronature store yesterday for some fishing tackle. At the gun counter there are 2 guy’s. They are talking about powder coating a rifle that was in need of a blueing job. Im wondering about they’re project about baking that rifle for 20-30 minutes at 400 degrees.

I’m not a fan of it in general.

I thaught that baking the metal would result in some sort of barrel warping or something like that. I was just saying to myself that they didn’t know what they were getting into. I guess that it’s not only bs you hear at the gun counter then!

It’s like thick over applied paint. And yes I’ve had it done.

400*f is likely below the point the barrel was tempered to.

Is your stock made of steel? That must be one heavy rifle!

I have some powder aluminum parts on some of my bicycles that I purchased in the mid 90s, look great.

That said these parts don't experience impacts but a set of my cranks do get rubbed and the powder costing has just clouded and I think you could polish it out.

I am surprised by the post from Stickynuts I would suspect the stock wasn't prepped well.

I like powder coating but I am unsure of it on a firearm, as Chuck stated it is to thick and I could see it filling in writing and ridges.
But I could be wrong.

I know nothing about powder coating, but I thought it was only for metal?

Powder coating is only for metal. Stinkynuts is probably thinking of hydro dipping for the stock. That crap is garbage unless you never intend on using the rifle. Powder coating can’t be sanded off.
