YMMV but the Poulins I've seen encourage expanding one's vocabulary of cuss word. The ear protection is for those who may be offended by your outbursts.

The handful of start cords is self explanatory.

Good luck with your saw. fill it up dd some sea foam and try to start it.

Pull the choke and try to start it until it coughs. close the choke and pull the cord till it starts.
He's gonna need a bigger shirt. All that poulin is going to grow him bigger arms.

The best thing to do it chuck it in the garbage before you spend another dollar on it and wrap your knuckles. Poulan = POS!

I'll get it running come hell or high water. Was looking for a light duty chain saw to take out camping, something that can chop up a bit of deadfall for firewood if needed. Getting too fat and lazy to swing an axe these days. Thanks for the replies, i'll post back when I get time to look at it.

Be sure to store it on a boot tray or something similar as you can keep chain oil in this poulins they leak so bad.

Popped the plug tonite, don't know how someone managed it, but the side electrode was crushed up against the center electrode. The center electrode is pushed to the side. I gapped it, installed it and it's still free pulling, seems to be lots of compression. Spark is flying everywhere but where it's supposed to be. It tried to start with the regapped plug but it's definitely not getting the spark it needs. Definitely getting fuel.

Thinking back, we spent alot of time in the woods felling trees and hauling them out for the old wood burner stoves. All we had was a mcculloch and a poulan chainsaw to chunk it up and they just kept purring. Managed many years of winter wood with those saws.

Appreciate the advice, both negative and positive.

And yes, the chain oil res has a slight leak...

I hope the above is sarcasm lol! And it is a horrible idea to hit the thing with the ether bunny. Remind me to never ever buy anything you are trying to sell Dacotensis, especially if it has an engine.

They sell these things "refurbished" for $100, and thats way over priced. Sometimes, you get what you pay for and power saws are on that list.

My advice is chuck out the Poulan and save up for a new Stihl MS 170,great little camp saw! There usually around $200 mark.

Weld the blade to the bar and you got your self a chain saw,she will cut no doubt about it.OR take the chain off and take one link out off the chain ,jimmy up a couple handles ,one on each end of the chain now your the saw.CAUTION FOR BAD HEARTS. Do not operate either one of these saws if you have a bad heart or back problems.Lots of saws around on kijji, save your self the trouble and score a good one,if treated right they can last along time.If nothing else it will make good target.

If I can get mine running enough to cut enough deadfall for a campfire, I'm happy.

New spark plug, bought some Shell premuim fuel and mixed it 16:1 like manufacturer suggested. Fired right up, purred like a kitten, rev's like a champ.

People just can't resist being negative...

It sat for the last 2 hours, one pull fired it up.

Now that you know it runs, go and get yourself a file and tune up that chain.

That's something I haven't done in a long time. Need to find a basic gauge, used to be able to do it by eye. Can't complain, I'm into a saw for $27.

Glad to hear you got it going. Are you sure about the mix. I have a 30 year old saw and it takes 24 to one. Newer Poulans are 40 to one.

The manual calls for 16:1 fuel mix on the poulan super xxv deluxe. Found it a bit weird but it seems to work.

New chainsaw for under 30$ and a couple hours of work.
I would take that any day of the week. Score!

I checked a 1981 manual. Shows 16 to 1 with 16 to one oil or 32 to one with 32 to one oil. Looks like you are good to go.

Don't let it get to you. SBSDD seems to be the way it is here some days.

I'm sure Dac knows how to use ether responsibly. There is a right way and wrong way for just about everything.

For the occasional user, I think the Poulan Pros are a pretty good deal. I think they are supposed to share a bunch of parts with the Husqvarna saws.

Good for you. There is a certain satisfaction that comes from utilizing something successfully that others do not have the know how to salvage.
