I'm not knocking the TTSX or your success with the 140 in your 7STW on anything. Run a 175 or 180 of the same construction through it at the best velocity you can and note the difference at 300 yards ..but maybe on something a bit larger than a Pronghorn. I have a 6.5x55 that would do that.
I have killed elk at over 400 yards with the 140gr TTSX , and the elk never went farther than a few steps, so It's pretty hard to improve on that.

Pick two ctdgs, then use the two bullets referred to. Then use the nominal muzzle velocities for that bullet in those cartridges, then determine the distance to a given (same) impact velocity. The rest should come a bit easier.
How in the world can you do that in the field? You can’t. End of discussion.

Simple. Take your reference material with you. I hope it's the end of it.

Two bullets in the same situation would be two bullets fired from the same rifle at an animal x distance away. The only theoretical variable you are changing is impact velocity based on muzzle velocity given the bullet weight you have chosen. A heavier bullet does not allow you to sneak closer to maintain constant impact velocity.

I don't bother with reference material or with theory, I just shoot the animals, and look at the results as we dress the animals. I prefer witnessing first hand results as opposed to listening to other people's theories.

Precisely ! The TTSX performs best at higher velocities. They are ideal for cartridges similar to the STW or at much closer ranges for cartridges with
MV's below 3000 fps. In that instance, a good C&C and more weight would be more practical.

And the people that don’t are pretty easy to spot.

I have killed elk (big elk) at over 550 yds with TSX’s out of a 270. Bang, step, flop.

You know what is really crazy. I have tried a whole slug of different bullets. You know what I discovered? They all work. Let me say it again. They all work.

Footnote: Don't shoot animals in the arse.

This morning I watched a cow moose shot, and then participated in dressing/skinning it. It was shot with a 168gr Berger out of a 7mmremmag. After being lung shot while quartering away, the cow walked over a hundred yards before laying down to die. After looking at the damage caused by the bullet fragments, one of the fellows started referring to the Berger bullet, as the burger bullet. The cow went farther than any moose that I have killed with the TTSX, even though the bullet fragments damaged the tenderloin and other meat. Overall, neither of us were impressed with the bullet performance.

This afternoon. A 120 TSX from a 7-08. She didn’t go 15 yards.
