Default First Fish on Fly Rod

Went out to my favourite trout pond today to try and catch my first fish on my fly rod. Don't know much about fly fishing but had a pretty good day catching 5 in total and throwing 2 back.

Was a good enough day I think I am pretty much hooked on fly fishing. Still have a lot to learn, like what the name of the fly I was using... Anyone know? This is now my favourite fly lol.

And here is a picture of supper.

Thanks.

I got all my flies picked out for me by WSS and TFH employees and didn't really know what was what. I decided to use this one today because I thought it looked like something I would eat if I were a fish.

Are there any times of year or situations when the prince nymph really shines or shouldn't be used?

Sure is a lot to learn about fly fishing, I was kind of hoping I wouldn't enjoy it but after today I think I am hooked lol.

I acually use white deer belly instead of the biots and it seems to work well

Prince Nymph is an attractor pattern that can be used anytime. The times not to use one would be when you identify what they are feeding on and can fish that. Congrats on your success with the fly rod and your nymphing. Next thing on the horizon for you will be success with dry flies. I am very impressed with your success and wish you well with your new addiction! lol

Well I know it is a good little pond with lots of fish so that probably helped. I don't think I have ever been skunked there using lures, bait or now flies.

Go out and buy this book to learn what flies to use when and to figure what is what.
