Porcupine, rabbit, hare, skunk, raccoon and woodchuck may be hunted, but not trapped*, without a licence throughout the province, at all times of the year.

Not sure if you are yanking our chain with the dolphin joke.....
but seriously I have also heard Porcupine CAN be good to as long as they arent eating conifer bark. then apparently they taste like turpentine.....

As for me, I'd like to give it a try once, same with woodchuck..they are just big vegetarians...

Theres an old saying that you dont shoot porcupines because men lost in the woods eat them to survive. I think this was for survival in the boonies. I dont see the problem taking one on farmland where the nearest road is 1 km away at the farthest.

anyhow Do tell us more about your "dolphin" meat experiences...

Don't know about taste. I would think that they would be like a Woodchuck, except when they are eating tree back, fall, winter, spring.

Dad claimed that Porcupines were protected under the Home Stead Act because they were considered survival food since they could be easily cornered and killed with a stick. And they were the only animal that could be easily taken this way.

As has been pointed out, they are not protected now.

Default porcupines

The slow creature is to be a survival animal. It is out there for an eaisy kill with a stick and a great meal. I have never ate one but my dad and some of his friends have ate a few and said it was really good.
