Default Heat map of collared Grizzly Bear movements in a managed forest area

Pretty cool seeing their movements based on the collared bears in the area.

Be just as cool to collar some scientists and see which coffee shops they congregate around.

You figure those grizzlies just put on the collars themselves? Give it a break, it's great that the scientists involved are sharing some results unfiltered.

The grizzly bear does not like cutblocks but has no choice after all the trees are gone. Why do we have almost half the grizz in the Wilmore, because no forestry companies can cut trees their and real wilderness. The rest of the province is now scrub land.

About the only wildlife that old growth forests support are squirrels and spruce grouse

Very cool. Reminded me when I use to radio tag bull trout. Tracking data is cool.

The shark tracking data is also interesting.

A Collared Grizzly Bear density of 40/1000km2!

And that does not include uncollared bears....

Oh my!

Grizzlys love open areas. They were built for it and evolved in open areas.

Don't worry, the uncollared bears know where the study area is and stay out. The scientists said so.

Its pretty neat with the time and day scrolling at the top of the map so you can gauge their movement frequency and even speed for those times they're covering lots of ground rapidly.

I'm sorry that you don't find science the least bit interesting. Most do.

If they made the data more recent there could be sustenance hunters staring at their phones trying to find a delicious grizzly to eat. Hardly fair chase.

How do they keep the collared bears in that red square?

Yea but 5 yrs? If you zoom out you can see where this area is located. I would wonder of you would even get any reception out there. I'd also have to ask if the subsistence hunter prefers grizzly over moose or elk. What also comes to mind is if these free rein hunter are ambitious enough to travel that distance. From what I read on these forums they seem to prefer spot lighting form the comforts of a truck.

I really dont see much on that site. Just several moving dots that represent something that took place 5 yrs ago. There is nothing more, you have no idea how many bears of what species there are or even what influences the bears movements. More like its grand renewal time so lets throw something out there to bedazzle a few. But dont mind me, I tend to be skeptical of a lot of things.
