I don't think it's anything to get too excited about. It's easy to get wrapped up in the excitement now, but it's a long season. So many things can change in a blink of an eye.

Even if they do have a wonderful season, and manage to make it to the playoffs is it because they are a good team or is it because they were a "Cinderella" team?

Let's not forget that in 2006 that's exactly what they were. And they quickly showed how they turned into a pumpkin.

Before we plan the parade route. And get our hopes too high that they crash and burn, we need to remember that.

Early success is great, but I'd rather seee them as a team that can consistently make it too the playoffs and then be a team that can challenge for the cup.

One hit wonders is not what we need.

Better yet, McDavid is the top point getter, and Talbot has the most wins and shutouts. I know, it's only 6 games in, but this is better than any time since what... 1984 or so?
We just need to keep playing well

Talbot is hot right now. Big 4-1 victory over the Caps. 6-1 on the season. Wow.

That win was as solid as they come. Best team in the league last year. Never lost back to back.
I'm not buying playoff tickets yet but one thing is for sure. It feels good to watch the games and not want to throw my hands in the air or just turn it off as has happened many times in past.

It's been a painful go being an Oiler fan and I'm loving the way the team is playing now.

I'm at a loss for words. It appears we really have turned north. I am certainly not going to gloat. Rather just enjoy the ride. The reality is that if we play .500 hockey for the rest of the year, we likely make the playoffs. After all the pain, that just sounds weird. Oilers and Playoffs in the same sentence. Oh my

I'll be brutally honest here and say I wasn't too sure about Russell prior to the season. But my god has he impressed! We all knew he is a notorious shot blocker but his d-zone has been outstanding thus far. Breakout passes/rush have been great and his all around game has really impressed me.
It takes a really good defensive effort to make a team like Wsh look average, and mediocre they looked. Best all around game so far imo.

This was his stand out game in my eyes too. He's really impressed me a lot. Him and Larsen both. The secondary scoring is a good indication of how the team is feeling. Everybody is rolling. It's good to see.

Hopefully we will be watching a real battle of Alberta with the games meaning something soon!

Been a fan for 30 years. Never felt more optimistic than this season.
We have a goalie, defense and the best player in the NHL.

I agree with all of you guys. The only thing that will hold this team back from playoffs is injuries, but they're playing much bigger, not being pushed around hockey so I'd imagine injuries will not be as seen this season as teams know they can't take any liberty against the Oilers with Kassian, Maroon, Nurse, or Lucic knocking on their door.

The other biggest difference this year is the secondary scoring has been phenomenal. Letestu, Pitlick, Kassian, Nuge, Maroon, Slepy, Pulju. It's not just top two lines doing the heavy lifting, the bottom six is doing great things. Very welcomed to see.

The other few minor things the Oil still lack of become a really, really good team is a good point shot on the PP, and better RW depth. Will have to see what Chia does about that.

Warm fuzzies go away quickly due to injuries. Long season.

A one hit wounder would be most welcome after the last 10 years. I'm sure we would all like to see a competitive team year in and year out but givin our last decade let's take some baby steps first. I understand your cautious optimism, I share in it as well but it's ok to to be impressed with the boys and give credit where its due, looks like they FINALLY turned the corner. I have been one of their harshest critics the last few years just cause they just didn't care if they won or lost, they had a looser mentality. That appears to be gone now. It's ok to be proud of them again, dust off that jersey and wear it with pride. #GO-OILERS!!!

I have been impressed with him , since Watching him in Bantams. He was MVP WHL in 2006. Played Medicine Hat Tigers. His Twin Brother, Ryan also excellent player. However his father had him as a forward, Ryan played part season for Columbus Blue Jackets. There family is from Caroline, AB. His Father Doug was professional Rodeo member. Doug put 80,000 km/yr, taking his boys hockey games, schools, camps. It's long road to NHL. Good luck Russell.

Taylor Hall has five goals already. Massive loss to the Oilers, regardless of how well they're doing.

He's a world class player no doubt about it. I'm a big Hall fan but somebody had to go to make room for the changes. It's a win for both teams. I'd have rather Eberle went but Hall going cleared the way for McDavid to be the leader he needs to be.

Part of me wonders if Hall was a part of the problem in the dressing room. It seems too coincidental that we got rid of two first round picks that had pretty good egos and the team starts to click. I admit that I thought the Hall-Larson trade sucked when it happened, but the record is proving me wrong.

Being a Flames fan I wish our standing positions were reversed, but I'm glad to see Edmonton winning again...with Calgary getting it's youth and talent back (next year we can dump a lot of bad contracts) it should be fun to see the Battle of Alberta take shape again.
It was fun in the '80's when teams hated to come to Alberta (some called it Death Valley)...get beat up by Calgary and then Edmonton or vice versa.
The Smythe Division playoffs between Calgary and Edmonton were EPIC!

2-0 win against a division opponent. 7-1 on the season. Ottawa at home then Leafs on the road next. This team could very well be 9-1 soon.

Talbot and McDavid continue to steal games for the Oil.
