Default Ware Creek Area

Looking at taking my family down to this area and camp around the Ware Creek day use area...fished Ware 8 or so years ago, but can't recall if you can random camp, or if you need to be in a designated campground. Can't find much on the internet, so hoping someone may be able to provide some info for me!

Thanks!

Default Ware/messa butte

I was fishing in the area last week and fishing were great on both three point and ware. You can do random camp, however spots are not easy to find. The road takes you to ware creek day use area were very narrow and rough. I don't recommend you bringing in a trailer. After last year flood, that road is very hard to drive even for my xterra with big tires on it. Fishing can be very rewarded if you could make your way in. Very less fishing pressure and the rainbows were very active. Nothing more than 12" though in my past experience. I would suggest you camp at three point. There are a few nice spot past messa butte just before and after the second bridge. I had fun on my 2 wt last week. Just can't keep them off the hook. Great place if you are bringing kids for a fishing lesson. Cheers!

Thanks Upstream. I like your ideas. Location isn't all that important with my almost 3 year old, just want to keep his interest up so fishing with him will become easier each year!

Random camping, although often done just off the road, is actually NOT permitted in Kananaskis FLUZs, including the Ware Creek area. You are suppose to be at least 1 km away from the road.

This is seldom enforced, though it depends on the warden.

As was mentioned, random camping is not allowed in Kananaskis, unless you are backcountry camping at least 1 km from the roads.
I don't think it matters on which officer you deal with if you are caught doing this. You will be fined and it is strictly enforced.

If you're thinking of the Ware creek area, there is a camping area at North Fork (not too far away).

Ouch, thanks for the info.
I did see some trailer camped mark on some of the open sites not too far from the road tho. that is too bad.
