Cold weather performance from rechargeable lithium batteries has typically been very dismal. Hopefully they have figured this out. I really can't see any benefit that would put weight the negatives that I know from these batteries. They do normally have more power behind them than a NiMh battery would but about the same as a lead acid. I don't see weight being a factor to go to these batteries either as most machines have a ton of power and the few extra pounds shouldn't hurt.
I'm interested to see the results for sure.

The cold seems to be a factor with the Li ion batteries. However, it's said to be a lot less of an issue with a LIFePO3 battery. I'm very interested to hear the results of starting with this battery in the cold.
The cold was the reason that I was thinking of adding an ultracapacitor 'battery' in the mix. I hooked one into my car in -40 when the lead acid battery would hardly turn the car over, and it started the car like it was +20 outside with a warm engine. Unfortunately, the draw from the security system overnight killed it. It only took a few minutes to charge however...
I also had the battery go on the swather. I was bored, and hooked it in while dad went to the city to get another battery. It would start that 4 cyl cummins like it was nothing all the way down to the bottom of the red zone on the volt meter. I did that by starting the swather and immediately shutting it off till it was having trouble starting. Then I ran the swather till it was charged again. 2:45 aprox. I didn't run a stopwatch, but watched the times on my phone. Boy, did that alternator scream while it was charging. One knew when it was done...
