Default Salmon Itch, needs scratching!

Ok all...
It's been crazy in the GPSL office over the past bit and now I have a monster urge to go Salmon fishing.
So, who is doing what this year for big fishing trips?

I am thinking of a 2 day break from the lodge and doing a overnighter down south by whale channel. It's a area we don't normally fish, so I think I can justifie this little party all in the name of exploring for our clients. Lolololol

As well, I am heading to the Vancouver boat show to try and pick up a new skiff for the Lodge. I need something that can still be used for luggage and general running around, but it needs to be able to fish as well. That way perhaps I can get away from the lodge and catch the odd tide this summer.

Perhaps I will look at a new Sea Sport as well.

Good times coming up!!
What are you guys doing?

Jamie

Sounds like you have some great trips coming up Jamie. Checking out new areas to fish is what fishing is all about.

Sturgeon trip in April to the Fraser Valley with my crew, second of what we hope will be an annual trip.

Lac LaRonge in June, checking out some new areas up there as well.

Heading back to Vancouver Island in August to visit my girlfriends parents and fishing Salmon and bottom fish while we let the crab and prawn traps soak. Good fun.

Halloween fish camp is the last planned trip of the year, on the Arrows in BC. Set up the wall tent, burn some fir and fish. A great annual trip usually just below the snow line at that time of year, right on the water.

Good luck and safe travels to everyone on all your trips this year.

I wish I had a salmon fishing benefactor!

Typically, I would never be able to do a trip like that. I am a poor student, and have been for quite some time. My girlfriends dad took me out last year for my first ocean fishing trip ever. I ended up landing the biggest chinook of the season. It was the only salmon I caught all trip, but it was an experience I will never forget.

Planning to do a Kitimat/Skeena trip with the jet boat at the end of June, beginning of July.

And a week out of Prince Rupert or Tofino area, depending upon how plans come together in late July or August.

Just to pump it up, Here's a pic of the Ling I caught in August. ( buddy caught one 60lbs, mine is 58, and third guy's was 55) (only pics I got was one sent....other with phone at bottom of lake):

joining the FCAAA for a trip beginning of august at rogers lodge for some Salmon/Halibut!!

I actually tried to get them to check out your place Jaimie however they have some deal with the owner at rogers as it is a group of 45 members going? I don't hold a significant seat on the board to make the big decisions.

On isolated humps off of Stevens island northwest roughly. Two on one hump. Third on another the next day. We were actually trying for halibut at the time. The year before, we only caught a few small ling while rock fishing. I also caught a 120lb Hali (63inches) at the same spot as one of the ling.

Most likely will head out to Ukee this summer.. Just not sure how to do it. My boys want to do a man trip and leave the girls behind.. I may do that and take momma on a trip on her own some place else later in the summer.. We will see..

But I will be someplace on the west side around mid July early Aug..

Good news on the halibut front as the IPHC has accepted area 2B's (BC) proposal of keeping the same amount of Total Allowable Catch (7.038mill lbs) of halibut, when originally they were offering us 5.2 mill lbs which would of seen cutbacks. Thanks to all those involved in the process, looking like, but not for sure yet, this year will have the same limits as last. Time will tell.

Valley, sorry that is not my Dave.
Dave Uzzel is who works with us.
We call him big Dave. He has to be 6'6"
Monster of a guy and perhaps the best Salmon guide in all of BC.
He hunts big Salmon like no other I have seen. Combine that with a extremely friendly personality and he is one for the books.

Nice. When you going? I am doing my two trips to Langara again. Group of 44 in June and 66 in August.

So far our biggest fish from the grop in the last 8 years are :

Lingcod 66
Chinook 54
Coho 18.5
Halibut 250
Rockfish, yellow eye. 24

Hooked up a massive fish like a shark and with full rod pressure for 45 minutes we were dragged fro elgeria bay to the lighthouse. Epic battle without seeing the winner.

Sundance we go the first week of Sept.. I have a couple friends of mine that have gone on your organized trips and have had a great time. Langara is our favorite Lodge and we have tried quite a few.

Was the fish you had on a big salmon shark? We have caught a few and they really fight. Usually they break off but we have had a couple right to the boat.
