Cool that he's 41 but most importantly he's old. That's the way to keep our sheep herds healthy for the next generation.
Beautiful spot to kill him as well! Looks like they should be able to ride the horses right to him.

Heading out from our campsite to where many ewes and lambs had been seen we came across a sharp cut below us. Brady my guide saw a horn just over the ridge. so now we're pinned down by 20 rams or so milling about. Didn't want to risk a shot.
About a five hour sit on a steep sidehill with a group of rams 80 yards away. Something had to happen soon and when it did the larger rams that were hidden took off downhill to feed. when the big one finally slowed down the rangefinder said 450 yds. Hold for range said 360. One shot from the Barrett and there ends my quest for a Dall. Anyone who can climb and has decent weather would come home with a ram. Incredible game rich area with a top outfitter and guides.

Did a bit of math. You were shooting downhill at 37 degrees. Good shot.

What is the formula you use to figure that? I did have to dig my heels in to keep from sliding.

Beautiful Ram Bob!
Thanks for getting the fall season started here on AO.
Here is a trig calculator.
True distance, C - 450
horizontal distance, B - 360
Angle of depression, X - 37'

Not the cleanest comparison, but 37 degrees is around the incline of an average black diamond ski run at Marmot Basin.
I always find that looking through a rifle scope at steep downhill angles really gives you the feeling of falling down the mountain. Once shot a BC goat near Smithers from a perch above a 150 foot cliff. Terrifying to look through the scope at that angle.

Congrats Bob !
Now down to Old Mexico for your slam ram !
Did you end up finding a caribou, when I talked to Grizz he said you had just headed out to look.

Thanks Jeff, yes I did take a nice caribou. I might try for the slam one of these years. A big desert ram would put me in the (700) club.
