I will see how it goes...if I drop one in the water....

I am hooked on the lake hunting now vs quad/walk.

Canoe is silent and if it's calm it's easy to cover alotnof shoreline.

Default Last Moose Hunt

This photo was take back in 2008.

My partners, (77 and 80) on their last moose hunt. Luckily a higher power intervened and provided them with a fitting finish to their hunting careers. The antlers measured 40 inches inside to a max of width of 47 inches at the widest point.

Rifle

I tried general archery there last year and missed a nice bull so I put in for the draw this year.

I’ve hunted the general archery season in there as well, some good bulls but having the rifle in there would be a game changer, being able to hunt the rut is awesome.

Nice bunch of moose. No doubt lots of effort and hard work. The story would be great to read. Congrats on an obviously fantastic hunt!

Well after an archery season with lots of close encounters, my wife and I were able to get a bull opening morning of rifle. My wife was on a partner license on my tag so both could both hunt moose together. After a long stand off with 2 bulls at 80 yards, the bull we took finally turned and gave us a broadside/quartering away shot. She made a great shot with her 6.5x55 and I followed shorty with the 7mm. He didn’t go 20! Good luck to everyone out there.

I will admit I wasn’t too sure how the 6.5x55 would preform on a moose, but i am impressed! Good shot placement is obviously important. But it is a sweet gun!

Why’d she need a follow up? I’ve flattened moose and elk with my 6.5x55 no problem.

Honestly she didn’t need a follow up. The bull was in a small clearing surrounded by muskeg so we didn’t want him going far. It was a 1.2.3. Bang bang situation. Her shot definitely would have done the trick. And with the partner tag it is kind of cool that we got him together.

Two shots through the lungs; he didn’t go far. And next to no meat damage.

We just bought her the rifle this year and this was the first animal taken with it. I never even heard of the caliber before I seen it for sale. So I was curious to see how it performed. I like it, shoots great, bullet preformed great. My wife is tagged out, so I will be using the 6.5x55 for the rest of the season.

The Wife got her Antlerless Prairie moose November 1 with her 7mm-08 shooting 140 grain TSX. It was a nice yearling. She did a great lung shot from 200 yards.

It sure was warm and we didn't waste any time field dressing, skinning and getting home with it. Glad I have a walk in cooler. It came in pretty handy. Some good eats to look forward to!
