Default pocket knife

I have carried a pocket knife for 50 years. The one that I carry for general duty now is a case 3 blade knife.
case-stockman-burnt-stag-00179. keeps a great edge and does not wear holes in the pockets like some bigger knifes.

I've been using a CRKT M16 03S https://www.crkt.com/collection/m-16...s-classic.html for 5 years. Holds an edge very well and is easy to sharpen. It's considered to be a bit of a classic in the knife world https://www.bladehq.com/item--CRKT-K...Classic--30306

Thanks
You can get assisted folders in Canada, just buy from a Canadian retailer. Or have a friend in the USA take it apart and send the blade and handle in separate boxes.

They are legal but the CBSA still seizes them when they can find them. They also seize a lot of fully legal knives with thumbstuds and no assist as well.

We have had nearly all the knives spoken about in this thread and we sell them at a fraction of what you pay. I know one of the problems is for the out of town fellas getting here.

Examples: Cat likes the Gerber multi tool and I sell them for $10, Curtz likes his SAK's I sell them for $1 - $3 each, Tool likes his Leatherman and they start at $10, Newview01 and his Leeks, we had 5 in the bin and they went for $15 each.......

Just trying to save you some money....and as a bonus, every nickel goes to the Chapel.

Oh yes, and not to derail, my daily carry is the ZT 450, Spyderco Cat or Spyderco Delica.

Cheers,
Betting the most common problem with pocket knives is, Loss. I keep a 10. special from the impulse buy counter with me at all times. Surprisingly good quality at times.

Cheaper fiber reinforced nylon scales, but I don't mind the feel with the aggressive patterning. Phosfor bronze washers instead of bearings on the pivot, but it's action is impressive for the price. Outstandingly ground D2 blade with a nice choil to choke up on the blade for more control if needed. There's a pricier version that uses bearings, better steel and G10 scales but that's over your price point

After trying several dozen different designs I’ve settled on the paramilitary 2 for my edc/pocket knife. I’ve had many variations of the PM2 as well and settled on M390/CTS-204P and CPM 20CV. They’re all the same steel just made at different foundries. For my uses it’s the best steel for edc I’ve found yet and the design of the knife checks all the boxes for me.

I brought two with me (both had the scales changed)

Always with deep carry clips

I left one in my safe back in Canada so I have one when I go back for a visit. I bought this one back in 2012 and it’s got a few more miles on it now but this is the only pic of it on my phone.

Ive got a Kershaw Blur with S30V steel.

It took a bit to get it sharp, but once I got it razor sharp it stays that way. Ive only sharpened it twice in a year and i use it every other day cutting rope, zip ties and other plastic.

You can still get good assisted opening knives at Cabela’s. I got a couple of Kershaws a little while back.

I have been carrying a Buck 503 Prince 30 years or so whether in my jeans or my suit pants.
Small, tidy and doesn't eat a hole through your pocket.
I just buy a bunch at a time from Buck because most stores don't carry them.
That way when I lose one, particularly at the airport, I have a knife in my pocket as soon as I get home.
On my hunting/fishing pants I carry a Leatherman Skeletool. It has got me out of several jams.

I used to collect knives, have a lot of knives of every kind. Here is my recommendation.
Stay away from the tactical style folders, they're way too heavy and the blade is always too thick. Find a thin light weight knife.
Stay away from tanto style blades or semi serrated blades.
A 3-4 in blade is perfect, and the leaf shaped blades or some of my favourite.
These knives are about perfect imo

Spyderco Caly 3.5 non carbon if you can find one (but change pocket clip to endura style)

After much research I settled on this for an EDC. Love it!

I have a Case Trapper, and have to say its one of the best built, classyest knives I've owned.

That said, I pretty much always have a SAK Farmer in my pocket. The aluminum scales make it a fair bit slimmer than the normal ones, its small enough that I dont notice it in my pocket but has very useful collection of tools... to be honest I use the screw drivers at least as much as I use the knife blade, and the awl thingy is the best sliver remover I've come across. The saw is a handy little blade saver for lots of cutting jobs.

When I am at home my ballcap sits on the table, inside it are my knife, keys, and wallet. While I may leave the house without the other items, or the ballcap itself, when I walk out the front door that knife comes with me.
