Browning BLR 308 Pre-81
So I'm at my wits end. I have a BLR 308 Pre-81 model that I love and is my favourite rifle.
Problem is I lost the clip moose hunting a few years back and now am on the hunt for a clip. If anyone has been looking for one of these you know what I'm up against. It's almost a miracle to find one.
So I'm hoping someone out there has maybe an extra one that they may not need any more or willing to sell one that they have for what ever reason.
Willing to pick up pretty much any where in Alberta.
Please let me know if you can help.
Thanks

Good luck. Very few available and at gun shows usually command $200 +
I have one of these guns and it took 3 years to find a spare mag (now have 2) for $125. Found that one in 2007.
Only one I've seen recently has been making the gun show circuit in Alberta and BC for the last year, $250 asking price. Says he doesn't care if he sells it or not, that's the price.

I would think there is a good business opportunity for someone with the right skill, and initiative to build clips for the hard to find ones like yours.
I went through the same thing for a ZKW 465 that took 10 years and $200 to resolve.
I gave my son the same gun you have and repeatedly tell him " for god sakes don't loose the clip".
I have seen them at gun shows from time to time so keep looking.
Good luck to you.

IIRC, my BLR was $265 when I purchased it new in 1973, I thought that the spare mag I also purchased then was way overpriced @ $25. If I sold it now I would lose the other one for sure.
AFAIK, a similar situation exists for PH 'C' models, (which IMHO, is justice for marketing them as 'clips')
I suspect that a similar fate is in the future for many current non stanag plastic magazine rifles.
Many aftermarket replacement 'clips' are of poor quality and do not fit or feed well.
Nobody wants a blind or floor plate magazine rifle, but nobody ever lost a mag. DBMs are also often the cause of poor feeding problems.
Now that lever actions are prohibited in AU, (and may soon be in CA) replacement mags may be available, but the only buyers will be in non UNATT countries, and export of parts from UNATT countries will be illegal.
To the OP, when you decide to sell your single shot BLR, send me a PM.
Good Luck, YMMV.

I have some design capabilities and a machine shop available.... if I was able to borrow a mag from someone, perhaps I could reverse engineer it?

Just to clarify only lever action shotguns are being reclassified in AU they still have their Marlins and BLR's

Sold one a few years ago for $100 that I found in some old boxes. I wonder what that guy turned around and sold it for. Definitely will be keeping my eye out for them at estate sales and what not

I also inherited the same rifle in 308 and lost my mag this season. Very unfortunate. I found a few on canadian gun nutz forum but they are selling for 300 plus.

I believe that the 243, 308 & 358 clips are all the same.....so don't limit your searching to just "308".
and yup....... they are hard to find.

Yes, one magazine does all those calibers. They are marked as such.

just bought one 250,only one I could find and sellers don't care if you feel robbed,b ut then again 200 for a sako clip, berretta should be ashamed of them selves,no one loves sako's more than me,but they lost my business period, sold them all of and lost money, but no big deal as long as berretta doesn't get a nickel, the sako 75 is way better rifle, the 85 is not even close.

There is no comparison between the original BLR's and the later versions. The originals were far better for fit, finish, and functionality. It's just that the danged magazines are priced beyond compare.

That could be a plan. I have 2 BLR's made in Belgium, 2 made in Japan. The Japanese made, are more to my liking because of the workmanship. Its a matter of personal preference. The BLR 81's give you more choices in caliber, as well as pistol grip, and steel or aluminum receiver. I have several of these from 222 to 325 wsm. They are all fun to shoot. The clips for the BLR models are still available if you look in the right places. I got one last fall that is OEM for 73.00 to my door. There are jobber ones out there, but are not marked and are lighter.

The BAR mag attaches to a floor plate. They will not work in any BLR.

I like flush fit magazines and pistol grips. To each their own.

There aren't any. That's why the originals are able to be priced as they are. No jobber in their right mind would bother. Not enough guns to make it a worth while effort.
