Default Maintenance on a rear drag reel.

I have been stripping down my reels in preparation of open water and thought I would try and bring back my old rear drag and see if I could get it nice and smooth.

Ran into a snag with the pin in the photo. The videos I have watched on YouTube show it being pulled out with vice grips.

I am worried that I could bend something trying to get it out.

Certainly seems easier on the videos just wondering if anyone has personal experience with this?
