Stock conversion?
Thinking out loud here. I just picked up a RH Remington 700 carbon fibre stock and am going to convert it to LH. That will involve filling in the existing bolt notch, ejection port cut out, and safety cut out. For simplicity I was just going to use bondo, but I’m thinking the bolt notch in particular might benefit from epoxy as the filler.
Any thoughts?

I would use cloth and epoxy, I think the $2 worth of cloth and the extra 5min of work are well worth the peace of mind. But that’s me.

I will likely epoxy in a cross bolt from behind to bridge the gap as well.

Is that a serious response or a back handed jab?

The question was, did you intend to strike it?

I would use the same epoxy you plan to use to bed the action. I used Devon 10110 for my bedding job. It’s great and very thick - easy to work with. I also used JB weld when I installed my rising cheek rest, it’s more fluid and hard to work with I don’t recommend it for your intentions. But I used 2.5 lbs for my cheek rest and it’s much cheaper than Devon and a less critical job than working around the action.

If you don’t know the answer it’s OK to go on to the next one Dick.

I think you could get away with Bondo .I may suggest making some undercuts for the bondo to "grab "on to. What's the worst that can happen ?

Why not just buy a fiberglass repair kit? The matting and resin will be lighter and stronger than Bondo. Bondo is only a filler and has almost no structural strength and no flex. I think a kit is only like $30-40.

Bondo is a poor choice, it will not stand up when used in a large block like the bolt cutout. It works well for skim coating though. I would use glass or Devcon with one layer of cloth below and on top. I would build it up in two or three layers.

I agree that Bondo is the wrong product for the job and will crack or let go.
The same company makes a repair kit that is a fiber infused product. We always called it fiber fill and IIRC it comes in long or short strand. It is green in color and premixed so you just add hardener. It is available at CT or any body shop type supplier.
I have used this to reinforce cracks in the internal wrists of shotgun stocks and fore ends and it held forever. I have also repaired some ugly holes in rusty cars where a torch and welder should have came into play and the repairs lasted for years.
I agree with some under cut and if I were doing it I would drill and tap some small holes in the area where the product is to be installed. Product can then be forced into the holes to aid in bonding. I do this when bedding stocks with two piece as well but would not recommend using epoxy as a filler.

That looks like a great start, I would have suggested fibre glass epoxy as well. Keep up the good work Chuck and keep posting pictures.
I fitted a 700 VTR into an old walnut stock and used bondo the bed the action. Worked like a dream, then I free floated the barrel and that rifle is stupid accurate, use it for bears mostly. It’s fun working on and making your rifle yours and having a bit more hands on.

Just waiting on the barreled action so that it can be finished.
