I found a couple of little things, like using a space blanket to store your meat under to keep it cool. Where there is snow and it's warm out, digging a pit in snow for the meat and cove with snow and blanket. It would freeze solid and keep long after all surrounding snow has melted. If not solo, a miniature deck of cards to wile away rainy days or play while glassing. Use bladders from wine boxes for water storage - you can buy them now. Used them for pillows too.
Having a thin 1/8" closed cell foam liner for metal cup and bowl keps food and drink hot longer and weighs nothing.

This was invaluable having to spend a frosty night on the mountain packing a Dall ram out of the middle of the Yukon.
Liked the stitching throughout the bag. Made it tough, and did not tear when getting inside it with boots on, and staying in it for 5 sleepless hours.
Mental Note: DO NOT SLEEP WITH YOUR HEAD IN THIS THING!!!
Good thing I was in all of my rain gear as well.......the condensation of my breath created a rain forest......I was soaked. Like I said, good thing I had my rain gear on. That situation could have ended a whole lot different.
Would not go out without this.

Good tips whitetailsheds

Here's a tip I hope no one has to use

I did a solo 7 day trip at the end of Oct with early season gear (more or less)
Days would be around -7 to -14 avg night where hitting -35 avg , with out wind
I had my summer tent, it was so cold I would drink as much water as I could before going to sleep so I would wake up half way through the night to pee, so I could warm my nose up, so I didn't get frost bite on it....

Couple other things that didn't occured to me in late season

Keep your tent a good ways from your fire

I didn't , the heat from the fire melted the snow in the trees and made it rain on my tent , freezing it to the ground.

Having a lot less light at the end of Oct then the end of Aug
At the end of the day in Aug I'm done n ready for bed
At the end of the day in Oct I'm board, and not ready for bed
The book I found at a camp near by , made the nights a lot easier
(Was a lucky find)

I've stacked hot rocks (not to hot) from the fire in my vestibule at bed time in when it's cold. They will throw off a good bit of heat for quite a while. You can also heat up water and fill your water bottle (make sure the lids are on tight) and put them in the bottom of your bag. Warm feet at bed and liquid water in the morning.

I like that idea. So this keeps the butt of the gun riding forward on the waste belt while the muzzle end is angled up behind the the shoulder?

The butt sits in a custom pocket (pouch) that's sewed to the wast belt n pocket
Then theres a Velcro strap that go's around the rifle on the foregrip with a clip that go's to the shoulder strap....

A friend copied mine and made his go under his arm n behind his shoulder
It Took longer to shoulder
Mine comes straight up in front of you and doesn't get in the way

Next month I'll be adding this to a Kuiu 7200
I might move it farther back on the wast belt this time
You need to reinforce the shoulder strap because of the weight of the rifle pulling on it.
I've used it on long guns from 6-30 pounds
All stitching was done by hand with 20 pound test fire line
I used parts I cut off the MR to make it.
It kinda like the Kifaru but better

I pack salt in square plastic juice jugs (ease of packing)
When it's time to leave and I didn't get to use it, I hide it under wood or moss
mark it with gps, now I never pack salt. Or take it in on a scouting trip

i bent my leki cam locks packing my ewe out, so upgraded to some MSR's which look much stronger.
will be getting a kimber montana in 270wsm this summer & hopefully a leica rangefinder. my rubber rain gear is really hot so i'm hoping to buy the kuiu Yukon jacket, as their gaitors breathe extremly well. either that or their SD jacket.
gonna wait a year to see reviews on kuiu's superdown sleeping bags, then maybe pick up one of those. also need a decent spotter, but that a lot of dollars away!

this is also on the shopping list

the best thing since slice bread as far as coffee goes is the starbucks vias packs. wont go up the mountain without them.
my biggest upgrades this year will be a tigoat 6.5 tipi with wifi stove instead of a heavy 2 man tent. weight is almost a wash but will be 3xbigger and 10x more comfy especially when stuck inside on weather days. will be great to be able to dry stuff out and warm up after a wet day on the hill.
Enlightened equiptment quilt/tigoat bivy instead of my northface cats meow. I hate being stuck in a mummy bag and not being able to roll over or belly sleep. should be more comfy and over a pound lighter
forbes 07/08 with 3-9x33cds instead of my browning x bolt 7mmwsm. should shoot as good if not better and be about 2 pounds lighter.

I also plan on ditching anything and everything synthetic. merino wool is twice as nice on the skin and doesn't stink to high heaven after a couple days of hard hiking.
on my scouting trip im going to hide some salt, booze, and back up essentials. my pack weight should be down about 10 pounds this year and should feel like a dream for the 30k into camp

Sorry I missed this ....
The 2L jug holds about 5 lbs, I've got 4 kicking around my area...
But 2 pounds should be enough for a shoulder mount, to get you out and to your taxidermist .... Id want 6 or more for a full body....

The new gun holder was harder to make work on the Kuiu then the Mystery Ranch.... I had to "beef up" the pocket with the foam knee pads from Sitka timberland pants. And use the left pocket for the right side because of the way the pocket is built, and buy a new left pocket....

But with a couple new ideas, I like it better then before
(I added adjustment to the top, so it's easier attach)
And used smaller clips to cut weight....

I will text or email you pics to post,
I just don't have time to post them , with it taking me 15 min or more per pic
And my never ending honey do list , and getting everything ready for aug 20.

I was thinking I would do custom pack work for about 3 or 4 sheep hunters per year... But it wouldn't be cheep....
But my work will last longer then the pack.
