Default 28 Nolser

Anyone out there have a 28 Nosler and been able to get 3300 FPS (as marked on the Nosler factory ammo box) out of the 160 Grain Nosler ammo?

I'm shooting an M48 Liberty with a 26" barrel. I can't imagine that the test rifle had a longer barrel than that. Rounds were all at about 20C when fired and I'm averaging 2150 FPS. I shot on a sunny day and a cloudy day; deviation was 20 FPS...a far cry from 3300 FPS. I'm 22 rounds into the 30 round break in so I can't see the velocity changing much after complete break in.

Something is definitely wrong to be getting that low a velocity from that cartridge and that load.

Heck my 303 Brit runs a 174 quite a bit faster!
As was already suggested, try a different chronograph or a different rifle through the same one to check it.

Im pushing the 195 gr bergers at 3135 fps. I would say you need a new chrono.

New battery is needed as your low one doesn't have enough juice to give proper readings.Unless your chrony is 500yrds away that would be you fps.

Seriously? The velocity is 2150fps, not 3150fps?

How far is chrono placed out front? Also, was the chrono consistently giving up numbers or were there quite a few “errors” or no responses?
Also, test barrels are often longer than 26” if I recall correctly.

Thanks YYC338.... I was wondering what the heck was going on!!! Buddy's 303 was outperforming my 28!!!
I just shot a few more rounds across my friend's chrono (different brand than mine) and I got virtually identical readings with his: 3159 FPS from the Nosler Accubond Trophy Grade 160 Grain bullets.

I'm getting 3250 FPS from same bullets with 80 grains of RE25 which is a bit lower than Nosler's published data but not 150 FPS lower like the factories.

Anyone out there test these cartridges (even a different caliber of the same manufacturer) and get similar results?

I find that velocities listed on ammo box's are usually on optimistic side

Norma loads ammo for Weatherby. Any factory ammo I measured made by them hit or exceeded the box but I have only tried 257 Bee, 460 Bee and 270 Win ammo made by them. Same is true of the Privi, Hornady and Winchester ammo that I have measured. I have never Chronoed Nosler ammo. That said I have seen the same ammo shoot 200 FPS difference on the same day in two different guns, both with the same length barrels.,
