Default Rossi Ranch Hand Holster

Hey fellow AO'ers, I posted this on another forum, but thought I'd share this here as well

Hey guys, thought I would share some quick pics - had some time today so I sketched out a pattern and made up a quick holster for my Ranch Hand. Color came out darker than I had hoped only because (like a dolt) I used a swab instead of a cloth to dye it & it was streaked a tad so had to double up the dye.
(I picked the right gauge of leather because it's nice and stiff but the holster is only 1/2 the weight of a cellphone - 8.55oz)

Anyways, took a few hours from scratch but seems to hold it tight & works really well.

The detail of the edge pattern

Back

Barrel clearance

How the rifle sits - holstered.

weight

It worked out alright, but I may do another with a cutout front spine for a little quicker draw & in a lighter color, the dark Mahogany looks even darker in the pictures than it really is in sunlight.

Still have to add the leg strap in one of the sets of holes at the back, I'll see how it feels once on.

Ideas to the next one :
-Make it interchangeable from a hip to back to pack with loops and a cross shoulder strap.
-Possible making a swivel belt loop so one can crouch or kneel and the holster will bend with the wearer.
-maybe throw a pocket/pouch on the front for a knife or cleaning kit.

If you decide to make more and have one to sell let me know I was wanting something for mine. Nice work.

Can I get in line for one if you get into production? I reckon lots of ranch hand owners are looking for something like that.

Working on one with the same design but partial opening on the front/spine to see if it draws a little quicker... should be done in a couple hours.

Trying a lighter colour and a bit worn look too.

Have you decided how much you'll be charging for these??

Very nice craftsmanship on that holster coho. Sheephunter will probably want one.

I have had my eye on those Rossi's for a while. Thinkin 44 Mag. Whats yours?

Dang don't that lever seem a little large for that rifle? I think I would want a smaller one. Just for the sake of compactability. Still like em though

Default Good Job

I ordered both the holster and scabbard in for the store for customers but I must says youve done an excellent job. You have developed both the holster and scabbard into one, my hats is off to you.

Thanks CJF, my next task is to build one that is a basic scabbard that can be slung over the back, tied into a backpack/saddle (molle as well) or be added to a belt loop and worn as a holster.

The 'Mare's utility boot'.

When you get one of these designed I'm in for one (mine's a lowly 357, assume it will fit?). I want something to strap onto a backpack for hiking the backcountry.

I haven't had time to mock up the next prototypes - been kept busy making the version 1.0 & 2.0 for people - lol.

I will get around to making the first scabbard when I can.

Default Awesome work!

Beautiful work! I would definitely be interested in acquiring one of your ranchhand holsters in the near future when I buy my own ranch hand (next on the to buy list lol) You may want to get a Spaenaur catalog (located in eastern Canada) as they have all kinds of snaps, swivels, rivets etc. The catalog is probably tghicker than a yellow pages book full of fasteners. I used to work for Edm Nut and Bolt in sales and they are a Spaenaur dealer, probably get many options and good prices to keep your overhead of production costs down. Just a thought....anyways please pm me your contact number so I can buy one of those beauties in the next couple of months.

Default Mares Leg Holster

I have the Henry .22 Mare's Leg and thinking of buying a .44mag. Will the holster fit both guns? How do I buy one or order the holster? I live in Whitecourt Ab. I'm not happy with the holster from Cabala's.

The Henry .22lr is longer than the Rossi .44 mag, the holsters have to have about 1.5" added to their length, but other than that - they fit the same, so yes you could buy one and use it for both. It just may be a TAD longer for your Rossi.

BUT.... if you don't mind the barrel sticking out a bit from the bottom of the holster with our Henry.22 lr, I could lengthen it only 1" and it would work for both pretty good.

I think the length would be fine. You did a outstanding job on them. The Cabalas one I have is a pain to quick draw and too bulky!!! Is their a number I can call to order and can ask questions? For sure I will be getting one!!!! Thank you!!!

EDIT: whoops, I think I was wrong after checking out his profile. He was on the boards last night.

What kind of prices would a guy be looking at for something like the rossi ranch hand holsters? Haven't noticed any prices throughout the thread. Does it depend on how custom of a job you want? I have a buddy who owns one, and just curious what it would be for the holsters. He carried his in his back pack last season while bow hunting. Thanks.

Default Mares leg holster

Any chance your still making the mares leg holsters?

I have a henry 22lr I use for grouse when Im deer hunting. would be great to not have to pull it out of my backpack every time I see a forest chicken.

Not to mention your craftsmanship seems to be top notch.
