Question Pheasant hunters please read! Hunting event interest?

Many pheasant hunters in Western Canada and beyond will remember with great joy the Ring neck classic / Winchester classic events put on by the Great Canadian pheasant company in Brooks . These generally included one day of sporting clay's and one day of hunting , or lately just the two days of hunting.

I am interested in finding out how many of you would be Seriously interested in attending a event like that close to Edmonton? For those of you who are unfamiliar with the format I will roughly outline below. Please respond to the poll along with additional comments for your "perfect event" including dates , ideas, format etc.

Clays/ feather event - 25 teams of 6 people per team (3 dogs working max at a time)

Thursday-
12 noon - 4 pm registration and open sporting clays course
6 pm - Welcome banquet, silent auction, dinner, door prizes, drinks.

Friday - Sporting Clays-

25 stations - 4 shots per station
lunch provided
Dinner banquet - Day 1 totals ( based on true or averaged totals) , Land / hunting property auction, Calcutta auction (betting on winning team), Guides and marshalls introduction / review of hunt rules .

Saturday- Live hunt-

Marshall to pick up 50 birds meet at designated property
Birds released with team - 8 hours of hunting allowed .
Awards Ceremony - Dinner , team totals, Calcutta results , prizes awarded , drinks and dance .

Some interesting ideas were to release a equal number of hens and cocks with no "off limit" birds, continuing the "golden band bird", etc .

look forward to hearing from you

- Erinawol

Well guys if I can drum up enough interest I can make this a reality, Tell your friends to please vote or comment on the thread or please do so on their behalf. Once i have initial interest I can start polling for dates / format / etc . at this point we just need to see there is a viable interest

Thanks for the response -lots of guys grumbling about the teams that had more dogs than hunters- if you have a ratio of dogs working to hunter/handlers that you like better please suggest it ! Nothing is in stone and we are looking for ideas that please the majority and build interest

AO could likely field a very competitive team or two, and at the very least, have a lot of fun trying.

Default Individual or team

Please indicate if you could realistically field a team of 6 members . We are looking for a minimum 30% interest which means 45 individuals "Committing" before we continue with fully organizing .

Thanks all

Default got my attention!

Definitely interested as long as not too much conflict of dates with other events going on. Any idea when this could be a reality?
I know these events take a ton of preparation, and summer is usually out due to vacation schedules, etc. (as well as being too dang hot for the dogs) Early September? Or, could we possibly do it in the middle of the winter season? Wouldnt be my first bird hunt on snowshoes (this week, for that matter!)
Crap......here I am jumping the gun,and it isn't even a done deal yet. Just count me in and tell me when to show up!

Could do a smaller event as soon as March , it would likely be our soft test run for viability with a big major event in September.

You need a cash deposit in order to get a true set of numbers.
Great idea!

Smile Similar rules to the one in Stavely?

What Location were you thinking of? Stavely's problem IMO is that the hotels are a long way from the festivities.

Good idea.

After ten years of hunting the classic, one dog per hunter is a good number, if teams need to split they have a dog, usally the owner knows when to move and when to let the dog work and the person following can be a saftey concern. 2 cents

Hotel and banquet dinners in Vegreville , hunting lands are all within 20 km radius just the clay portion is a bit farther 50 km

I would be interested in both Sporting Clays as well as Hunt components of such an event and surely would attend if it were possible for me to do so. Likewise, I would do what I could to help make such a thing a reality.

Preferrably it would be as central to a single location as possible, not 50km here or 20 there. Some travel would be alright but too much would likely make it less enjoyable and lend a disjointed feel to the proceedings, not much different than heading out to Tofield to shoot clays and then driving off to wherever to Hunt birds on seperate day.

That said I am relativley new to Alberta and as such did not partake in the Ringneck Classic nor Winchester Classic. In fact, I am entirely new to such events having not attended any such event in the past. As per assembling a team, at this time I am unable to speak for anyone other than myself.

I am very impressed with your intiative and believe you have a great idea on your hands! I sincerely hope such a thing comes to pass.

Default You bet!

I've got 6-10 other fellows that would be in as well.

My it's were longtime Ringneck Classic supporters.

Not crazy about having it around Edmonton, too much snow.

See if Brooks or somewhere with less snow would be interested.

My pooch is itchin for a shoot!!!

Me Too,

I ran into Cat Near Brookes, not knowing it. He was running a 28g SxS and target shot. Super birdie dog.
