Heifer Prices
Anyone on here know what the average price is right now for a commercial yearling heifer? Looking at possibly buying a few this spring.

Bred or open? Bred heifers are from 1800-2400, opens have been 1600-1800. I paid 2200 for my bred heifers, angus/Simmental cross.

Awesome thanks. Looking at open heifers. Just tossing around the idea of grazing heifers, throwing a good bull in and seeling them as bred in the fall or just going straight grassers.

Depends on how much you need to drink I guess.
Some guys will do anything with the right amount of whiskey in them.
I’m a lightweight and have taken the odd heifer and Sow home for under $100.

I'll have 5-600 replacement quality heifers for sale this spring. Red and black angus.

Wont be many, maybe 15 or 20 each between 2 of us, so 30-40 head total. We both just want to slowly get into it and in a couple years maybe start keeping some and calving them out to build our own herds up.

You should be able to buy 600lb heifers for 12-1400. Don’t buy crappy heifers if you want good bucks when you sell them as breds. The cleardale colony sold 380 bred heifers in mid December for $2200-$2900.

Ya we will definitely be looking for quality heifers. Id rather pay a little more up front for good quality.

What constitutes a good (higher priced) heifer from a not so good heifer? Trying to learn something here.
Also how come the spelling rule i before e does not count in heifers?

A good heifer has length, good disposition, a little bit of height to keep that utter off the ground, bright eyes, good growth for her age, if a group of them, they should b all uniform in size and color and quiet!
Not so good heifers are the opposite of what the good ones are
Trust the force when picking replacement heifers!
