Default New Old Anschutz

Just had to show off my new purchase. Found it on the used rack at CSC for a really good price. The wood is a little beat up, but the metal is great and the rifle still looks amazing.

Anschutz 1418 from the late 50s. Double set triggers, 3 leaf rear sight, the fore end spacer between the two stock sections is buffalo horn. Bottom metal recessed around the mag, which they only did on 54 actions on later rifles. It weighs 5 lbs 7 oz. Going to make a great iron sighted walking .22!

Gotta love finding an old classic and giving it a new lease on life.

Good eye picking that one. It’s not possible to have too much wood on any rifle.

Nice old 64 actioned Annie for sure!
Never seen a Mannlicher style Anschutz with a forend spacer , all the ones I have owned or seen were one pieced stocks .
Looks great!

According to my research it was a feature on the early ones, both 54 and 64s.

Nice gun. I have owned a few full stocked Anschutz over the years. Three of them I ended up fully bedding the barrel channel to get them to shoot well. A couple didn't need that and shot well without bedding. If it won't group the way you want first clean out the carbon ring and lead in the barrel. Still won't shoot, have a look at bedding the barrel channel. Hopefully you get lucky and it shoots tiny little groups just the way it is.

I refinished it. Just too many scratches, dents and rubs from old paint ect in the old finish. In it's old condition it wasn't a mint collector anyways and it deserved to look beautiful again.

I usually like matte finishes, but I tried to get a semi gloss finish since the original varnish is a sort of semi gloss. I did the finish with Tru-Oil. Most all of the dents steamed out, a couple remain, but to sand them right out would change the stock too much IMO.

Nice job. Looks really good. Nice thing about the Tru-oil, very easy to touch up and the wood will darken just slightly over time. You can certainly see the grain much better with this finish.

It was just on the used rack at CSC. One of those days, just browsing around, "oh full stock Anschutz" flip the tag around and... holy crap! Couldn't get my wallet out fast enough.

I'm just not a fan of Mannlichers but you sure did a nice job on that old girl. If they could only tell their story..........if the original owner is alive today they could be a centenarian
