Default Drone over the Range

One of our members at SPFGA did some video with a drone. He said that later in the month he will add the other Ranges, Campground, Clubhouse, Fish pond.
He actually did some other video but I can not get it to play. If anybody can find it and do the post in this thread, it would be appreciated.

I'd be a wee bit nervous flying a drone over a range.

Sherwood Park Fish & Game owns the Range which is located about 40 minutes SE of Edmonton. The club owns over 700 acres including the "range quarter" ... and also has interests in another two adjacent quarters.
The video did not show the Shotgun Range, the Archery Range, Clubhouse area, Campsites, Fish Pond. Kind of like a "big Park for shooters".
The next intake for prospective Range Members will be Jan 1, 2016. Applications are not accepted until January 1, and in 2015, all available spots for newbies were sold out in five days.
Rembo, glad you only shoot rifle

That's pretty cool.
Neat to see the range from that view.
For some reason it feels bigger from the ground.
Good looking range tho!
Glad to be a member!

Don't know the type of drone. He just asked permission to do it early in the AM so us retired guys were not yet on site. Said he would come back and do the other areas in a couple of weeks, so I may glimpse it at that time.

Indeed. I can see this being a valuable tool for the SPFGA website which could answer a lot of questions now fielded by volunteers.

just based on how the video was named, it could be one from this company.

Longest distance is 300M ... and yes, we are proud of how well our members keep the place so clean!
Yes JR, it has come a long way from where it was 20 years ago. When I joined in 2002, there were only two rifle/handgun ranges, and a shotgun range. Now, we have two dedicated "long gun" ranges, a rim fire range, a handgun range, and a new 50M long/handgun combination range, a shotgun range, and an Archery Range.
All the covered sheds you see have concrete floors and proper shooting benches.
I think the year I joined, there were 700 members. We are now capped at 4500.

Drone operator, name Darcy Dietz ??? Your attached You Tube is DJI 0069, look for Darcy Dietz, DJI 0045, for a flight down and back of the300 m rifle range, 5 min, on You Tube.
Looking forward for the rest of the flights, Thanks to Darcy for this project, to go with the Google Earth bigger picture of a great shooting venue. Well Done.

Bruce.

A fellow had one of those drones at the Wildwood range a few weeks ago. During a cease fire while walking down to the 300 yard berm, a drone came up behind me. Pretty cool. When I got back to the shooting position, this fellow showed me his rig. We watched as he acsended to 100m over the range and looked down range.

I also set up some taneritte and he hovered 50 feet above and in front of the berm when I exploded it. He recorded it too. Way cool!

Are you allowed to use these for scouting purposes and would they be classed as aircraft where you have to wait 24 hours after before you can hunt. Would be a great tool.

Same rules apply to drones/un-manned aircraft as any other conventional/manned aircraft in the hunting regs.

That would be removing what makes a hunt, a hunt. How much more technology does one need to enjoy the fruits of being a hunter/gatherer? I would strongly oppose the idea.

Thank you.

Always somebody willing to test the latest technology, just hoping to stay one step ahead of regulatory changes.
You gotta wonder what other boundaries they like testing?

Gotta agree here.
I'm fairly ambivalent to stuff like scent maskers and such...let alone drones for scouting.
Part of hunting (IMO) is matching skills and knowhow against an animal.
Sort of takes the fun out of it (again IMO) when you use so much technology that the animal really has no chance.

Now on the other hand...Citroen (the French car maker) has a drone option on some of it's cars. You use the drone to scout out empty parking spaces.
That's cool.
