Default PAL renewal wait times

Just wanted to share my experiance with a PAL renewal.

I noticed my PAL was up for renewal in October, so on May 4th I did the on line renewal.

Just got home and low and behold there it is in the mail box.

Under two weeks, must say I was impressed.

Is the current CFO retiring or something? They aren't government ministers, they are RCMP.

Did you apply by mail or on-line?
Did you include a copy of your range or club membership card?

I mailed my RPAL renewal (with copy of club card) late Feb, received new card 1st week April.

I expected to receive renewed LTATT soon after, but needed to contact CFO during week before expiry as there seems to be no system in place for renewal without special request, I suspect that after passage of C-42(?) this will be much better.

Good Luck, YMMV

Everything was supplied in order, followed up with 3 phone calls to ensure all paperwork was correct and check status, the broken record on the other end of the phone keeps saying it's waiting for CFO approval call back in a few weeks..... In the process of filing a formal complaint

I made two calls the third was transferred to Alberta.

Did you get the opportunity to speak with Alberta?

The first calls went to the call center not Alberta.

Of course not, that would have actually been productive and possibly solved any issue the AB CFO had...

Rant time...
I sent my renewal in for my PAL that had expired 6 weeks ago...so far nothing in the mail.
So I go to the RCMP site to check the status of my renewal , It forwards me to a choice of about 5 different banking institutions first wher they want my bankcard number....well I don't have one with any of them..so I cant go any farther.
All I want to find out is the status not this other BS that has nothing to do with my renewal and why should it ??
can anyone help me out...Oh and of course there closed until Tuesday..
Grrrr

It seems right now if you renew before expiry < 2 weeks. Renew after expiry = frustration.

I hope everyone who sees this thread takes a minute to check their PAL expiry date.

I sent mine by mail and got it back in just over 2 weeks.
My son's expired and he sent his renewal in a month before me, still haven't got his back, although he said the check he sent for the renewal was cashed awhile ago. His is also a Restriced and non restricted not sure if that makes a difference.

It shouldn't matter PAL/RPAL....but it does, send in a copy of your range membership at time of renewal to save more delays.

Except that when you do send your proof of range membership in with your renewal, Mirimachi seems to never get it, and still drag their heals and then they send you the infamous letter.

At least that's how it went down with my last renewal.

My cheque was cashed three months before I received mine in the mail.

That's because you let your licence expire, and therefore it was no longer a renewal. In fact it became the same as a brand new application. Complete with mandatory waiting period, references, and all the other pomp and circumstance.

It sucked that you let your licence expire, but the process is the process, whining and bemoaning the outcome at every turn, doesn't change the fact that you screwed up by missing the renewal deadline.

Now that you've got your licence, how's the video of those 500 yard offhand shots coming along?

Well I sold my 300 WSM a couple of weeks ago to a nice AO member. I am currently researching my next rifle and looking for a .300 Remington Ultra Magnum that fits me and that I like.

When I buy it, I will use it for the off hand challenge, is that ok with you Dick?

I will, you have my word Dick! But I do not believe that it will be for awhile because the next rifle I buy, will be the last rifle I buy so I will be taking my time and getting it right.

Although I loved my Mountain Ti, it was the wrong rifle for me as it didn't have the killing power at distance that I wanted. I bought it on an impulse purchase, live and learn I guess.

AFAIK your paper application is scanned and then shredded in the first step of processing. Subsequent processors/reviewers only view the scanned material. I suspect that a separate included card (or copy) is lost in the initial scanning.

If you download the forms to apply by mail, you can recopy the last page to include a copy of your range membership card on the last page with your signature and date of application.

Good Luck, YMMV

I just challenged the restricted test three weeks ago. At that time the instructor ( Dean Fraser ) received an email while I was completing the written portion of the test from the RCMP it stated that in the near future they (RCMP) where going to suspend the challenging of non-restricted, restricted and prohibited weapons test. People are going to have to take the full blown course then write tests. so if any of you fine people have been putting it off to challenge your restricted you might want to put it on you to do very soon list.
I past the restricted challenge and was told to get all my documents in the mail that week and wait 5 more weeks before inquiring as to the progress of my application. I'm hoping my card comes in the next few weeks before my old one expires.

Bill C-42 once law, removes all possibility of challenging the test.

That is from an act of Parliament, the way laws are supposed to be made.

Not made up by an organization who's job is to JUST enforce the law!

As a preliminary to our Police State, the authoritarian, fascist, neo-liberal Allan Rock used C-68 to give the provincially APPOINTED CFOs discretion to modify requirements and regulation and to impose their personal will without restriction or oversight.

Bill C-42 removes some (but not nearly enough) of this discretion.

Yes, that is correct, but any movement albeit however small in favour of the firearms owners position is a good thing.

The first thing people need to realize, is that once your PAL expires, you can't simply renew it, you must submit an application as if you never held a PAL .Secondly, if you move, you must submit a change of address to the CFC. Lastly, if you are depending on receiving a notice from the CFC, that your PAL is about to expire, you will likely end up with an expired PAL at some point. Then there are always the games that the CFO plays, such as refusing to renew your PAL if you have restricted weapons registered in your name, until you forward them a copy of your range membership. There is no law requiring this, but the CFOs enforce imaginary laws anyways.

Do you agree that people should not be able to challenge the exams? I am honestly asking, I don't see how this decision helps firearms owners.
