Progress over the next few weeks will be steady but slow. By weeks end, hope to have the Safety Curtain installed and blocks on-site to make bases for the concrete bench tops.
Block work the following week, which must cure for several days before pouring concrete down the columns. Bench tops are scheduled to arrive in late June. Will need some husky help to deal with the concrete tops.

Is this the range east of edmonton in the north cooking lale area?

Looks like a lot of effort is going into refurbishing the grounds.
Good on all of you that are helping.

South-east of Cooking Lake. South of Hastings lake about 8 miles. Lots of dollars spent every year keeping the place fit and improving facilities to accommodate a fairly wide range of outdoor activities.
The target boards consist of three sheets of plywood. The two large "frames" are waiting for delivery of some conveyor belt which will be tested for practicality and endurance. I am actually hoping to test some soft, "pass through" gongs/reactive targets in the frame spaces as well.

Default Looks fantastic

We'd intended to make it out for yesterday's work party, but other obligations sadly got in the way. We're sorry to have missed it.

How's it looking out there? Grass growing yet? Been awhile since the last update!

No rain, no grass...not even any weeds! All the "prep" work is done for blocks to be set for the bases for concrete shooting benches. Two more for Big Bore, one more on Rimfire, and the three for the 50M Range. Doing the block bases for concrete benches tomorrow. CFO is scheduled to do inspection on Tuesday. Should know an open date after that.... We will not be waiting on grass.
And, Safety Curtain is installed.

Block layer was off-site by nap time. We did a total of six block bases, three of which are on the new 50M Range. Concrete tops may not arrive for another ten days. Pic also shows safety curtain.

CFO was on site as promised this AM. The new 50 M OPEN RANGE is now open for use. And, grass is starting to grow, so walk to target boards on the sides.

I think that requires a test trip!

Will there be gongs on the 50m or not because of centre fire rifle use on them and fear of ricochet?

No steel downrange is planned ... however, I plan to try a laminated conveyor belt design that will at least move when struck. Our conveyor belt is still a month away. Concrete tops for benches should be onsite in early July ... half an hour to prep, and four strong volunteers is all that is left....other than signage. No more missed naps

A reminder of what the 50M site looked like on May 5th. What a difference seven weeks makes...that lonely tree is pretty close to where the approach sidewalk currently sits.

Coming out to the range tomorrow. Is there any range closures I don't know about? Any tournaments, or people camped on the shotgun range? Hoping not, really looking to get a good variety of shooting in. Thanks in advance to 260, cause I'm sure he will be answering my question. And also thanks to anyone else who knows the schedule.

Nothing closed. The only time the shotgun range is ever closed is the third weekend in May, to accomodate the Black Powder shoot. SPFGA has not any "tournaments" for years. There is the occasional "fun shoot" but those should never really impact on members who just come to shoot.

Thanks again 260, you gonna be around tomorrow morning? I'm probably stopping to grab a coffee on the way out. It might be a little less than hot by the time I get there, but if you'd like a timmies coffee, I should be out there no later than 9:30-10am. Let me know what you take and what size you want if you're interested!

Thanks, but Mondays and Thursdays are my - go to visit brother in the nursing home - days. This means I only get to shoot on five days each week
The new 50M OPEN RANGE (that is what CFO listed it) has been getting lots of use.

Our grass/weed mix is germinating so from a low angle, it is turning green. Another rain would help..
Eaves trough is now installed, and bench tops are scheduled for delivery on July 8. They will get installed the first day I find 4 volunteers with strong backs

I am retired for the balance of the year as all the 2015 projects are done ... from here on in, it's just playing around
Also got lucky today with enough shooters on hand to set the last three concrete bench tops ...one in the Rimfire shed, and two in the Big Bore. Big thanks to the guys that did the heavy lifting!!!

Finally got the rain we needed to start the grass, did our first cut last week (between rains). Hopefully, the grass will choke out the weeds by fall.
