Campsite upgrade is 95% complete. Site expansions have gravel RV pads, and black dirt has been placed and seeded. Pics tell the story.

Thanks for the update and the pics 260, looks like they're quite a bit bigger now. What's the estimated time of completion on the 50 meter range?

We can not get equipment on site until road bans are lifted so the start date is totally beyond our control. A realistic guess would put the start date in mid May. Ground work should take less than a week if the weather is good. Pad and shed could take a month, during which time grass will be growing. My hope is to have things operational by mid July.

Got started on the 50M Range today (May 05). Unfortunately only three hours until break-down, but a good start.

50M Range is taking shape. Ground work should be done by noon Fri ... and with weather permitting, black dirt and grass will be placed by this time next week. Maybe we'll get lucky and find someone to form and pour the concrete pad by month end.

Culvert will be placed and burm rebuilt by noon Fri

I was out shooting earlier this week and the new additional range looked great..

For future projects, please do consider improving the clay shooting range.

I Skeet field would be a great addition

Skeet has been considered ... I have a set of plans. Talk to the Shotgun Chair and attend a meeting to promote the idea and perhaps you can sell the idea to Exec.

Sounds good!

We have got one automatic trap thrower (which is only accessible 2 days a week) and a manual thrower which is pretty basic. We must get a Skeet field!!!!!

We have an awesome range! Thanks to the executive, the maintenance guy, and any volunteers who give of their time.

SPFGA is my happy place. I love when I go and am all by myself (more often than one thinks). I love when I go and meet other gun guys, as we always have good chats. I just love the place.

Looking pretty awesome!! I'll get to see it in person this Sunday. Can't wait till the 50 m is operational. If you can't find anyone to form up the pad, I could always come lend a hand.

I have already gathered some info for 260 Rem, as to the requirements to construct a skeet field. Myself and another skeet shooter will be volunteering to help to get a field set up, and to help run skeet if we can make this happen.

Did the "measuring" as outlined in the plans and looked like there would be space ... Protocol is to go through the Shotgun Chair and if the Exec likes the idea, they are pretty responsive to investing members money to the benefit of members.

In July is more realistic. By the weekend, the black dirt will be spread, grassed and waiting for a good rain. Hopefully, it will rain every third day in June Covered shed will take some time ..then shooting benches. We will be hesitant to open until the grass gets a decent start. The pad is 56' long and will have nine shooting stations... a pistol bench, an open station for offhand/prone, and a concrete topped bench with belly wells... repeated three times.

Decision was also taken to add black dirt to the Overflow and Rimfire Ranges to better establish the grass. With luck, we will have the dirt placed, spread, and seeded by Thursday when we have called for rain

Default Awesome!

These upgrades all look awesome - thanks, 260Rem, for your continued dedication to the range, and to all of the other volunteers.

Speaking of which: am I correct that there is a volunteer work party planned for this upcoming Saturday, starting at 9am?

Yes, all ranges at SPFGA are closed on Sat, June 6 until at least 5:00pm ..to accommodate the hundred or so volunteers that will be working throughout the site that day. For their hard work, they will be getting well fed at noon and for supper ... steaks! Just home for a quick bite/nap, then back to see things get finished up today.

175 cu yds of black dirt was placed, spread and seeded on the Overflow and Rimfire Ranges since we got started at 0815 this AM.
New 50 M shed is framed, equipment benches and pistol tables are installed. Sorry for the low light pictures, but the sun has set behind the nose bleed high backstop.

I am proud to be a member of such a well run and user friendly range. My hat is off to you and everyone who put their sweat and hard work into this project.

Thanks 7mm08 ...I am surprised with the number of positive comments of which the Club is beneficiary. I have been involved with the club since 2002 and seen it grow from about 700 members at that time to be capped at 4500 a couple of years ago. Exec members have been forward thinking and built capacity to accommodate growth. Today, I was approached at different times by two different members who each made comments they believe they belong to best facility in Western Canada.

Good job all round.

Prior to joining SPFGA, I shot at both CHAS and Spruce Grove. The only thing in common between the clubs is that they all refer to themselves as ranges. The similarities begin and end there.

SPFGA is so much more than just a gun range. It is an outdoor family destination.

Most of us are quick to let the Executive hear when we are not happy, so why shouldn't we pump their tires when things are great?

Now let's get on with Elk11's plans for a skeet field!!
