Default Retainer rings for hypodermic style

These plastic retainers come with pre cut slots to hold either a 2 blade or a 3.
But wouldn't it be better not to line up the blades with the slots and just have the blades expand and punch thru the ring ?
Thinking it would hold them In place better than the material left in the slots.
Blades seem sloppy when lined up with the slots and may expand in flight.

Default Behind the tabs

The blades are suppose to be set up so that they are behind the tabs so that they are held in place when shooting.

When the arrowhead strikes the target the blades break the tabs and expand. The rings can be used either 2 or 3 times depending on the blade configuration then replaced.

So you can slip them back in if they ever bump out or so that you can move it till the next tab.

When I was picking out broadheads (mechanical) the fellow at the archery store mentioned that I should get a handful of those teeny-weeny rubber bands they use for braces, and slip one onto the "waist" of the broadhead.

Apparently it keeps the blades from popping out by accident but the rubber bands cut easily when required.

It seems like a good idea, but has anybody actually tried this?

Yes it's common practice especially on high velocity bows and crossbows, prevents premature blade deployment.
