Gun shop? If not bolt er together, pull out the bolt, find something 25 yardsish away and dial the scope at something you can see through the bore. This will get you on paper.

x2 .........

Get the right mounting hardware, install the scope then get a sheet of paper and make a large black circle with a sharpie........... put on a target board at 25 yards. Remove bolt and look down the barrel. Center barrel the on big black circle. WITHOUT MOVING THE GUN (sandbags really help) move cross hairs to center of the big black circle. Shoot a round and you will be on the paper. Adjust from there.

Do exactly this but at 100 or 200 meters, and you'll be on paper at 100, no problems.
I use 200 because there's always a left over target on the board at 200.

If you read the owners manual that came with the scope it'll probably explain the process of bore sighting there.

Black bullseye targets are your friend, BTW.

I started doing this at 100 yards and it works amazingly well.

Yup !!!don't need a bore sighter. Semi / levers maybe start at 25 though.

Even 200 I've done b4 on rifles I zero for that distance. And hit the bullseye. Prolly a fluke though.

You shouldn't just drop off your gun for scope mounting and bore sighting, you need to be there for custom fitting scope position to your position on the gun.

IMO first YouTube presentation is the best on scope mounting to fit shooter.

It is missing scope ring alignment and lapping and this is covered in second video.
Second video is ignoring custom setting scope to fit shooter like eye relief but this is covered in first.

To avoid lapping or scope damage I use Optilock system with plastic inserts for my Sako's.
Burris has similar version for other guns: Burris Signature Series.

Default sighting

From readings on the net it seems that hunting loads zeroed at 35yds should be about 2" high at 50yds, a tad high at 100 and bang on at 200. Close enough anyway and then minor adjustments from there. No doubt variations with caliber, grain, rifle, and all the other variables.

Exactly, I bore sight at 100 yards, and I fire my first shot at 100 yards.

If you're not on the paper at 25 yards, you got serious problems. By the time you go to 100, should be just fine tuning. Had some "bore sighted" scopes that were way out to lunch. Most shops will do the bore sighting thing for free if you buy the scope there.

What's wrong with red?
