Unhappy Big Mistake

Buddy and I put in for the Antlered Elk draw (separately) this year because he had a Priority 9. Buddy lucked out and got drawn but he put down the wrong WMU number. There's no way that he will hunt that area. BIG MISTAKE. Being long in the tooth, this was his last shot at an Antlered Elk tag. Has this happened to anyone else? Is there some way that the mistake can be fixed? Maybe have it changed to 999? Or is he SOL!!!
**** happens.

I ask fish and wildlife that once and was told you would have to pretty much be hospitalized for the entire hunting season and prove it.

Default Area?

How bad of area, could you two not go together and make a trip out of it sucks a simple mistake but perhaps together you can still fill the tag.

Think of the new zone as an adventure and have at it. If your friend is a little long in the tooth he could probly use a little adventure anyway.......

Haha only 255 000 sq/miles not big at all. I agree though go where the tag is , nothing ventured nothing gained.

Lot of people draw a tag and post on here, never been there. What's it like?

These mistakes/screw ups seem to happen from time to time. Question:
Which would be a better outcome?

1. Current system where person may eat tag, which is also really a lost hunting opportunity for another person who might have gotten drawn, or

2. Some time-limited grace period where "mistake" tags can be turned back into the system and added to the "under-subscribed" tag list the people can later have a shot at?

I sort of like option 2. You could add a one priority point penalty (or more) for anyone handing in a tag so that people didn't abuse the system by systematically applying for tags they weren't lilely to hunt. But at least that way the person who made the mistake wouldn't lose, say, 9 priority points.

If you really want to make sure that the tag doesn't go to waste, allow one week for people that were drawn, to contact the draw group, and cancel their draw. Then have a second drawing using the priority system, to redistribute all of the tags that were turned in. As for the priority, it's gone when you draw, or you will have people claiming that they made a mistake, when in reality, they just changed their mind.

actually you can get a mulligan. i made the EXACT same mistake this draw and while they wouldn't 999 me they can CANCELL your application (of course you don't get your entry fee refunded, but who cares when otherwise you lose your priority because you drew a tag in downtown edm.)
i wonder how much extra cash they make selling tags in wmu's that haven't seen said animal in 1000 years.

With this being my first time back in for awhile i can easily see how the mistake was made.
You would think it would be easier to use the WMU # instead of a draw code on top of two digit code for the animal.

Sorry about your situation but , like someelse said time for a new adventure

Good Luck and happy hunting
