Default Wmu 406

My buddy got drawn for moose in 406 this year and I'm wondering if there are any general tags available in that zone or am I going gunless

black bear is general

Grouse are also frequent in the area

All other deer moose and elk require special draw once archery season is complete

Watch the Mclean creek area. When I got drawn there it was covered in moose.

Default 406

Hunted 406 end to end over the years.

Just past McLean Creek is Moose Mountain, they don't call it that because it is easy to spell!

On Hwy 66 go past Mclean creek turn off, over the Elbow River bridge (if it is available by then), past Allen Bill Ponds, across the big pasture, just opposite Paddy's Flats is a right turn up and the up the hill.

First parking spot is a good place to park.

Walk up the road, big pipeline on the right goes back about 2 -3 kms, slow walk there could produce, couple of decent cutlines off of there covered in Alders.

If not continue up the road to the next parking spot, some information signs on the mountain there, have seen several bulls cross there over the years, no idea why, just seems popular, once the snow falls there are always tracks crossing there.

Just up the road from there is another decent parking spot, on the left is a large cutline going all the way to the bottom of the valley, very steep but several side cuts off of it.

Lots of grouse, some rabbits and my first Alberta Mule deer taken off that road over the years.

Good luck!

Unless you are a bow hunter or sheep hunting you are out of luck. I got antlered / antlerless whitetail this year in 406, think you only need 1 year priority for it so easy to draw. I'll be in the southern end of 406 mostly, haven't been around the northern.

Lots of moose around, come archery season just hiking/riding you'll run into people packing their moose out.

Carry your rifle and pop a few wolves.

Not my neighbourhood and I didn't look it up but can't you do a "partner" license on the tag?
