Default What targets would you want to shoot at long range??

Hey guys

I'm in the process of finishing our 1000M range in Fort McMurray and need to figure out what size steel guys would want to shoot at. We will have target stand at the following distances. 600-700-800-900 and 1000M.

Thanks for the input I have ordered 4 sheets of 1/2" AR500

Maybe if you built a barn at the 1000m line, I could hit it.

Maybe...

I probably will never be up there to shoot ..... But 1/1.5/2 (or all 3) Moa circle targets would probably be a must. Also maybe a coyote silhouette life size at 1000 yards.meh just what I thought of ......

Lmao ^

I like to shoot on various sizes of square steel plate. I prefer if I have a choice of size at a given distance, i.e. different sizes but all at the 1000 line.

I start on the 4x4', then go to 2x2, 1x1... Smaller is tricky but I know some guys around here that have no problem hitting a 5x5".

As long as it goes musical when I hit, I don't care of the shape/color.

12" is always fun.

12" at 1000 Y is nice because that's somewhat 1MOA.

Otherwise it's sometimes nice to have something larger for the windy days when things become a bit more challenging. This opens the chance of some hits making the day feel accomplished =)

24x12, or 24x24. I've never shot something so large at distance but it would be more fun than frustrating.

One mil, half mil, quarter mil at each distance. At 1000M 36", 18", 9" Targets spacing in meters? If in yards go 3 MOA, 1.5 MOA, .75 MOA at 1000 yds 32", 16", 8".

To be sanctioned for full bore competition the targets need to be set in meters anyway!
Over the years I have found that a 4'X6' steel target with rings at 2MOA , 1MOA,and 1/2MOA work well.
At 1K it's easy to miss and not know where the heck you are if you cannot see a bullet strike.
If you are going to run paper targets as well, the steel only needs to be 1MOA and 1/2 MOA however.

We have the life size moose at the range I belong along with the MOA targets. Lots of people will try and hit the moose for fun but not too many bother with the long range dial in.......that I've noticed anyway. Trying to hit that moose has been lots of fun, lots of laughs and more than a few side bets..............

I like the life sized moose idea. How about a cutout of the vitals - steel of course - so that the bread basket goes DING when hit and rest of Bulwinkle goes DONG.

Will sit and wait for them to come... Hehehe...

Racist? Are you kidding me? By saying that radical Islam and the fanatics that follow it are good for target practice is racist? Yeah, let's hold hands with them and say Cumbaya! !!!!! And let them take more hostages and cut more throats and chop more heads. And after they do that we will just shake our heads and say to them: please don't do it again!
What - are we afraid to be politically incorrect? Hell with that!!!! We are more afraid to hurt their feelings than we feel for their victims. Victims of terror, regular people like your children and your wifes and mothers. We are suppose to think about them and have a compassion towards them and not the radicalized fanatics who are taking hostages or supporting their action.

Default gong's MOA & shooter's MOA of hold

Suggest you provide a gradation of gong sizes that a guy can learn to have fun with while becoming a proficient offhand shooter.

Example: When you speak of a 2 MOA target at 100 I see a 2" disk or 2x2 plate. Those small targets don't often reward an offhand shooter, well not until he builds up a 1 MOA hold. For example, a 6" 100yd gong would require a 3 MOA hold to hit fairly consistently.

You should maybe take your rant to a different thread instead of completely derailing this one.
For the record, you won't see those types of targets made or bought by our club than you will zombie targets.

I believe its actually Allāhu Akbar.

Anyhow, I can't believe nobody's mentioned any Zombies!! Might give some of you a chance to use all that new fangled Zombi Max ammo!! lol In reality, I don't mind rectangular or square targets to hit at range. Hell one of my ranges just has old oxygen tanks cut in half hanging down range. As long as I get a report I'm ok, granted probably not accurate enough for you benchrest guys.

The range distance these targets will be located at start at 600M right out to 1000M.

Our exsisting range offers plenty of targets at the closer distances for off hand shooters out to 500M.

Target sizes
600m = 656 Yards
1. 24”
2. 12”
3. 6”
700M = 765Yards
1. 28”
2. 14”
3. 7”
800 = 874 Yards
1. 32”
2. 16”
3. 8”
900 = 984 Yards
1. 36”
2. 18”
3. 9”
1000 = 1093Yards
1. 40”
2. 20”
3. 10”

These are the sizes i'm thinking about getting cut what do you guys think. gives a little option for everyone and then i will probably put something alot larger at 1000M as well.

Any idea what happened to the 4X6 steel plates that were out there before that Manitoban and I put out there?
IIRC they were AR500
