although we did not build so i can't comment on the process we bought a brand new home from san maria homes in blackfalds in sept 2016 and are very happy with it and have had no issues what so ever. they are a smaller builder where the owner is very hands on with the actual build not just a general contractor in an office
internet is your friend to eliminate poor performance, sometimes you have to dig deep, the heavy advertisers with the everything is rosey pics may not be the best choice.
No matter who you go with you will have ups and downs. From my experience make sure everything you want is written down & documented. Save all texts and emails. That way you know what you asked for and what they said.

4 of them bought other homes ensuring they were built by a different builder before purchasing.

Meh, we had ours custom built with them. Process was very smooth. In all reality, they were good to us. Obviously you feel different, but that was our experience with them.
