Rear bags.
I'm considering replacing my rear rabbit ear protector bag with something taller and with shorter ears. Does anyone have an opinion on cordura vs leather for the ears? Apparently cordura is better with synthetic stocks, but I have to think leather is more pleasant to put your face against.

Crap, I just ordered another one, the Rabbit ears with heavy base, you find the ears too tall?

That is my biggest pet peeve of my rear bag. For me it gets in the way of a proper cheek weld. I'm thinking of this bag with the intermediate ears.

Quick, effective, easy to use and bring in the feild off a bi-pod.

I have an Edgewood bag that never makes contact with my face....all I feel is my cheek on the stock.

Cordura is a cheap durable alternative to leather.
I don't think leather can be beat as you mentioned leather is a little nicer on the face and cordura can be a "whisker grabber" too.
I suppose cordura might be a little "slicker" and not grab the stock during recoil but there shouldn't be that much to really make a difference. Depending on the Syn stock and if it is painted I would think cordura would be harsher on the paint for the same reason as it is on the face.

that's one i run as well, quite like it. 6.5x47l is now running the protector you showed chuck, and figured it's better than the edgewood. i disagree, but i'm sure it will perform as well. cheaper too. cement bench was looking into a bulk purchase i believe, lee

If anyone is doing a bulk purchase let me know I am interested in getting another rear bag.

Protektor's heavy bottom bunny ear rear bag works well with hunting stocks.
If you call their Pennsylvania office, the guys that answer the phone are shooters and can advise you. In my case they recommended bunny instead of rabbit ears - it was good advice.

All of the rifles I shoot off of bags are hunting rifles. I like the look of the protektor as it drops off quickly behind the ears and I'm hoping that will get the rear sling swivel stud off the bag. Not sure if that would actually be the case though.

If you treat your leather bag with wax, it is slick on either stock and is less abrasive to the finish than cordura. It also sheds water like a duck. The simple expedient of putting a piece of cloth over the bag works pretty well too. Leeper

A couple of twists and the rear stud comes off.

On some you don't want to do that too many times. On others yes, they are set up with a machine screw for that very reason.

I am using the edge wood bag as well. Works great. The ears on the bag are low enough they never get in the way of a proper cheek weld. Mine is filled with the heavy zircon sand. Best bag I've had.

You would have to be a goat for your face to contact the rear bag when it's cradling a rifle. Cordura's advantage over leather is when things get damp it keeps sliding. Waxed Cordura will not get sticky in rain.
